The Ace Combat franchise has never ceased to amaze me with it’s GeoEye satellite rendering of the world below you to the meticulous details in the aircraft you can fly in game. This is where the boys are weeded out from the men.
Here’s your preflight briefing.
August 9, Namco Bandai’s subdivision, Project Aces, released a trailer on a new game they’ve been keeping under wraps: A new and long awaited Ace Combat.
If a picture says a thousand words, then a movie must go over a million because I was drooling out the side of my mouth when I watched it.
Holding true to its tradition, GeoEye rendering of the world is used exclusively in the game for everything. If you have played any of the previous versions of the game (yes, I own all of them) then you have gotten a taste of what it’s like to be a real-world pilot. (Remember I’m a commercial pilot, so I see the world from above daily.)
Where are the places you can fly through and tear up the skies? According to the Xbox Live Arcade preview’s description, East Africa, Russia, and the U.S. will all be featured in this game. Heck, they show you what would happen to the buildings in Miami if a F22 Raptor’s 20mm Vulcan cannon misses its airborne target and hits the face of buildings in the area.
If that isn’t enough, for you rotorheads out there you will be able to fly a AH-64D Longbow Apache and potentially even a UH-60 Blackhawk. Although the game’s website doesn’t explain much yet, you can rest assured that there will be a fortress of aircraft to choose from ranging from a down-and-dirty A-10 Thunderbolt 2 (AKA “the Warthog”) to a sleek Russian Su-37. Adding helicopters to the mix is just outstanding.
As we come to the conclusion of our preflight briefing, don’t forget to read your checklists. If this doesn’t buzz your tower, I don’t know what will. Good hunting. Check your six.
