I had a Gaming Confession planned this week on Spider-man Friend or Foe as an end to Spider-week but I think that it has been covered by Rane Pollock’s GTNPA so in light of Platform Nations 3rd Birthday I thought I would be do something topical.
My confession this week is that I only heard of Platform Nation in the last few months. While you may see this as a shock, it’s a testament to the power of word of mouth and to how Platform Nation has grown.
I heard about Platform Nation through a twitter conversation with another writer(I’m sorry I’ve forgotten who) A few days later the call went out for new writers, I toyed with the idea, it’s an industry I have the utmost respect for and one that I have dabbled in in the past but I was concerned that as the new kid on the block it wasn’t my place to potentially take a spot from someone else who has been a loyal follower of Platform Nation since the beginning. After much deliberation I decided to give it a go and took my first steps. I wrote my sample and sent it in, and of course I was rejected immediately.
Just kidding, after a few days I was contacted again, letting me know that I was successful and telling me how things will work from now. The rest is history, I have 23(24 including this one) articles under my belt. Not too bad for someone who just found the site a few months ago.
My story can be yours, it can be anyone’s. Platform Nation will continue to grow and expand, the more people that we attract, the more potential contributors we have and the more diverse our viewpoints become. There are hundreds if not thousands of video game websites out there, what makes us stand out is that we are all individuals and we all have a story to tell.
