Welcome Platform Nation readers to this week’s special Halo edition of Unsung Heroes. I am going to break protocol and do it a bit differently this week. In the past, Unsung Heroes has been fictitious fun, but not today. This week’s Unsung Heroes goes out to the real men and women who have given us the last 10 years of their lives to bring us one of the most successful game series ever. This week’s Unsung Heroes are the Bungie Team!
Bungie has been around for 2 decades. They developed quite a few games before they struck gold with 2001’s monster hit, Halo: Combat Evolved. The first Halo stormed the gaming world and took no prisoners. It started a gaming revolution with multiplayer first person shooters. Coming off the high from Halo, came Halo 2 in 2004. This was bigger and badder than the first and was received by the world with open arms. Well a few more Halo games later (you know the story so I’m not going to bore you with the details) Bungie has finally created their swan song with Halo Reach.
I have to admit that I was never a huge Halo fan in the past. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed the games, I just wasn’t that big with the multiplayer. I don’t know why for sure, it just wasn’t my cup of tea. But that has all changed with Reach. I was lucky enough to get in on the beta and I was sold after my first night. I immediately went to Amazon and put in my pre-order and anxiously waited for September 14th. Let me tell you, I wasn’t let down. In fact I’m flabbergasted by the amount of options that Bungie has given us. They have packed more crap into Reach than my kids can into their diapers! They have given us a masterpiece almost as if saying “Thanks for playing Halo. Here’s one last gift from us for being such awesome fans.”
One other thing that I have to tip my hat off to Bungie for is Bungie.net. If you are a Halo gamer and you haven’t checked out their stat-tracking site, GO THERE NOW! Bungie.net is an amazing little slice of the internet that is full of all kinds of statistics and other goodies. They keep track of everything you do in any of their Halo games for your viewing pleasure. All you need to do is sign up and start playing Halo. It’s a nice touch when companies go the extra mile for their people.
Bungie, you have outdone yourself and made a casual Halo gamer into a diehard fan. Your attention to detail and your appreciation of your fans is the reason you are my Unsung Hero for this week. Keep up the good work and I am looking forward to see what you have in store for Reach updates as well as your next gaming endeavor.
Bungie, I Salute You!
