Halo Reach Signature Series Guide

You either hate them or love them, there doesn’t seem to be any middle ground with game guides.   The Platform Nation writers discussed them in Stir last month and we all agreed to disagree on the merits of buying game guides in this day and age where a simple search engine query can help you through any tricky part in a game.

With the launch of Halo Reach on the 14th September it won’t be a surprise to our readers when I tell you that the Signature Series version of the game guide is now available to buy.  Just to make the choice a bit harder, you will have to choose between one of the six available covers (or why not go crazy and buy all six!).

The guide features include:

  • The Signature Series guide is printed on premium paper and features multiple finishes.
  • The Limited Edition hardcover features an exclusive 96-page Developer’s Diary with concept art and personal commentary from the design team at Bungie, as well as a high quality dust jacket with an exclusive cover
  • Exclusive maps found only in the official guide show locations of enemy engagements and weapon caches for the campaign.
  • A complete campaign walkthrough that is carefully written to guide the user through all difficulty levels.
  • The enemies and characters sections show official art, bios, and stat lists.
  • Chapters cover the new Credit System and Armor Customisation features, providing information and tactics for obtaining all the available armor pieces for achieving character customisation in the fastest way possible.
  • A complete guide on how to unlock all the Achievements to boost your Xbox 360 Gamerscore.

To aid you with your decision we have brought you the reveal trailer, images of the six covers and three images showing what you can expect from the pages of the guide.  Look out for “the making of” video on Platform Nation later today.

We want to know what you think, so leave a comment below.  The official Halo Reach guide is available in two formats: the 352-page Signature Series book with an RRP of £12.99, and the 448-page Limited Edition hardcover that includes bonus content for £19.99.

Is the Legendary edition of the game complete without this guide?

  • is this in PDF format somewhere? I’d love to throw it on my iPad to help out a little here and there. I’m sure it’s a huge help with Forge mode as well.

I don’t think there is anything wrong w/ game guides..if you don’t want one then just don’t buy it like anything out there in consumer land. The only game guide I have ever purchased was the Fallout 3 guide. (and I do have the Fallout NV guide on order w/ the game) And only because there was so much to that game and I didn’t want to miss anything. If I was on a mission and I came across someone I wasn’t sure about, I wanted to make sure if I killed them it wouldn’t ruin another mission in anyway. And the special weapon locations…Oh yeah for me that book was a must have. It is already so worn out lol. I had never played a game like Fallout 3 before. When I saw the guide and how filled it was with information I knew I needed it. I know I could have consulted the wiki or the forums, but there is something about having it right in front of you. And I love books period. I have a Kindle, but I still buy actual books from my most favorite authors.
The only reason I can see purchasing one of the Reach guides, is for the cover. I am betting that Emile sells way more than any other.
I never understood why people get upset or disagree when something is available to be purchased. Why can’t you just not buy it..just because you might not think it is necessary doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be available for someone who does.

  • As an Artist and an avid Halo / Video game fan I think this is amazing. I purchased this hardcover guide and I must say it is constructed beautifully and makes a great addition to my library. The funny thing is i don’t even need it for a strategy guide, i just appreciate the plethora of information that is contained within the book as well as the amazing and skillfully crafted artwork.
