StarCraft 2: Heart Of The Swarm Release Date Confirmed?

You may recall from the Platform Nation review of StarCraft 2 that the game released at the end of July this year is simply part one of a trilogy. So when can you get your hands on the second part?  Up until now, Blizzard have been tight lipped about it, but in an interview with Gamespot UK this week Battle.net project director Greg Canessa, drops a strong hint that 2012 is how long we’ll have to wait. OK so it’s not exactly a solid confirmation but it’s the closest thing we have to date.

When discussing such future Battle.net features as trading replays, broadcasting replays, and upgrading profiles, he said they were “a main area of focus we’re going to be seeing on the Starcraft [II] side over the next 18 months between now and Heart of the Swarm.”

18 Months! That means around April 2012.  Blizzard have since stressed to Gamespot that a release date has not been confirmed but what do you think?  Is almost 2 years too long to wait between parts of a trilogy?

I jsut finished playing the campaign recently 23 missions altogether, and the storyline is by far the best rts storyline ive played in….well…ever.  But anything more than a year for each storyline maybe a little overboard if it ends up to that because i mean all we are really getting are campaigns nothing more really.  I mean i am sure they will add more maps or something, but essentially, we have the entire game already. you can play any of the three races online..that was the main focal point of this game was the online play.   Yea the storyline is great, but Wings of Liberty did what it was supposed to do.  I am thoroughly satisfied with what we got from them, but im looking at these next two expansions in the hopes that they will sell them as such and not as a whole 60$ game.

I for one am not in a hurry for HOTS.  There is just sooo much playability with the current SC2, I don’t see how someone can get bored with the current and just NEED the next expansion.  If you think about how long original SC lasted (and continues to last I suppose), then what’s the point of rushing out the expansions just to have no big changes for another 5 years.

What they’re doing here is changing things up more evenly throughout the game’s expected life cycle, which I think is a good idea.  Helps keep things fresh for a great game that will last for over half a decade.

you people that are complaining are pathetic seriously, blizzard takes pride in its game especially this particular PC game… considering 90% of the gaming industry is bassically telling the PC community to fuck off because of piracy, you should be glad at least one company is still dedicated to us and remembers that we are loyal regardless of pirating.

it takes a lot of hard work to actually develop expansions regardless of what you think its not simply porting the engine and maps over from another version, a completely new environmental engine is being used for HOTS and that fact that they are changing the most of the format of the game in terms of game play, not to mention the map physic’s and map building.

they dont just double check everything either, blizzard check over and over and over to make sure its as perfect as it can be from one side then they ask you how you want them to improve it and they do so, so quit your whining suck it up and be patient.  ignorant kids.

You know, I half think the reason Blizzard didn’t decide to make a SC2 earlier is because technology wasn’t good enough to run what they wanted to make.

well here i am in may still waiting on the expansion hmm i guss they could be actuly making a game that should be worth it but i guss there main priority this entire time has been diablo and pandas. ok yes they leaked heart of the swarm but comon they should release atleast in 2012 right? and anyone who complains about “oh they should have put it out by now” well you should at least think balencing and makeing sure the units are UNIQE i think they deserve a bit more respect and let them come out with a good long game rather than a shity quick game. please excuse my spelling

Blizzard has a tendency to take their time releasing most of their games. Look up the release dates for StarCraft (the original) and Brood War (its only expansion). Then compare that with StarCraft 2 WoL’s release date. It’s possible that they took a long time because they weren’t sure if they wanted to make a sequel, but even between the announcement of SC2 and its release. Also, they don’t rush themselves, and the updates they’ve been making to WoL seem like they are more intended to make it easy to combine with HotS. Lastly, they are changing a lot of the campaign AND some of the multiplayer, as you can read on their site.
