P*N New This Week: 17th October 2010

Welcome to Platform Nation’s weekly feature where we inform you, the reader, on all the game releases you should be looking out for.

Each week as well as bringing you news about which games are due to hit the shelves in the seven days ahead, the Platform Nation writer will choose their pick of the week.

My pick for this week is:

Vanquish

Vanquish: Directed by Shinji Mikami, VANQUISH is a sci-fi shooter of epic proportions with a fast, fluid and frenetic combat system, and an engaging and immersive storyline. Players take the role of Sam, a government agent kitted out with a futuristic battle suit, in a near future world where nations war over the planet’s remaining energy resources. A versatile fighter with a huge arsenal of weaponry at his disposal, Sam also has an array of martial arts skills that he can use to take down his robot enemies.

My View: Vanquish looks like a futuristic Gears Of War set in space with the frantic action dial turned up to 11.  It’s been on my radar since the initial teaser trailer and as the release date approaches I’ve heard more of my fellow gamers starting to become interested in it, especially after they see it in action.  Early rumoured criticism suggests that the campaign may only be 4-6 hours long but if it 4-6 hours of high quality action that is better than 40 hours of grinding.

The full rundown. As well as my pick of the week the following games are due for release:
