A news posting over at G4TV.com boasts that sales on the first day for the newly released Call of Duty: Black Ops has broken the record set by its predecessor, Modern Warfare 2. The previous year, Modern Warfare 2 set a record with the number of sales totaling 4.7 million copies. Black Ops broke that record selling an amazing 5.6 million copies in both North America and England.
The hype machine seemed to be in overdrive for the months leading up to Black Ops release day and it appears that that strategy paid off. I’m sure that Activision expected big numbers, but to shatter the record set last year must have been quite a sweet surprise.
When it was first announced, I recall reading various opinions that many people felt negatively about Treyarch’s contributions to the Call of Duty franchise. However, it seems that gamers are a fickle bunch and fans that might have been critical of the Treyarch games still seem to have flocked to pick up Black Ops. So, what do you think of this entry to the franchise? Does it live up to your expectations or were you disappointed?
