Resident Evil — a series crammed with the undead — just won’t die. How fitting.
But hey, I’m not complaining. Ever since I sold both my Nintendo and my SNES to buy a PlayStation and Resident Evil 2, I’ve been a fan of the long-standing Capcom series. And my fandom doesn’t just stop with the games; movies, books, comics — if it’s Resident Evil, I’m probably interested.
So you can imagine how I felt when I discovered there was a second full-length CG Resident Evil in the works: as giddy as a school girl.
Resident Evil: Damnation follows Leon S. Kennedy — hero of Resident Evils 2, 4, and first CG film, Degeneration — as he fights for survival in battle-ravaged Europe. There hasn’t been a whole lot of information so far, but Sony Pictures Online did offer a press release on the film:
CAPCOM Co., Ltd. […] and Sony Pictures Entertainment Japan Co., Ltd. […] have announced the coproduction of “Resident Evil: Damnation”, a sequel to the full-length CG animation feature “Resident Evil: Degeneration” based upon the Resident Evil (known in Japan as BIOHAZARD) series of games.
The article continues:
“Resident Evil: Damnation” will feature as its main character Leon S. Kennedy just like its predecessor. The film is currently in production, with plans for a terrifying 3D release in Japan in 2012.
And, just in case a press release wasn’t enough, there’s also a teaser trailer. Enjoy.
Two years is a long time to wait, but it is coming. Keep up to date on the progress of Damnation at the official site.
