Eric Ruth’s Pixel Force: DJ Hero

When I say the name Eric Ruth, what comes to mind? If the answer isn’t one of these videos of an 8-bit DJ Hero or Pixel Force: Left 4 Dead, then you probably have zero interest in things awesome. The aforementioned videos have teased the Internet as a whole for a few months now, but as of today, the retro-style recreation of DJ Hero has become material and downloadable for play at your leisure.

All right, granted the gameplay is pretty simple—bordering on stupidly so—but god damn do the chiptune remixes and mashups make it worth it. The second “trailer,” so to say, actually features a mashup of Ray Parker Jr.’s “Ghostbusters” and Huey Lewis & The News’ “I Want a New Drug” and goodness gracious is it deliciously delightful.

Like I said, these Pixel Force games are pretty simple and a bit on the easy side, but that’s not important; you can tell Eric Ruth loves games and these two retro interpretations of two modern franchises are a labor of love. The front page to his website, in fact, is a heartfelt summary of the impact of games on his life, some of which I’m sure you can relate to.
