Purely for speculation and fun, I was checking out the most recent roster set up for upcoming fighter – Marvel vs. Capcom 3. For those who don’t know, this is a fighting game that pits video game characters from many various well known and slightly obscure CAPCOM games against the villains, and heroes from MARVEL COMICS. And since the announcement of this third game, every fan has been guessing and chipping away at photos as to who will be included in the final roster.
We know that there will at least be 30 characters from the gate, and that DLC will be available too. And there is no limit at what will be available for that, including backgrounds, alternate costumes, and most importantly – new characters. I want to focus on who could possibly be offered through downloadable content. And I’d like to offer you dear reader, my wish list for each side. I’m going to be selecting both familiar, and maybe unfamiliar characters to you. These will be characters who have not yet been featured in the last two series as playable characters at all, freshly fresh faces to the video game series! I’m going to pick three characters for each side on this wishlist, and hope that someone from Shoryuken or Capcom checks me out and decides to throw me a bone or two . I hope you enjoy, and feel free to leave your thoughts below.
1.) Samanosuke Akechi, from Capcom’s Onimusha series. Onimusha is one Capcom’s top franchises, standing shoulder to should with the likes of Resident Evil, Street Fighter, and Mega Man. The Onimusha series itself retells the stories of historical Japanese figures with a supernatural twist. And Samanosuke is no exception as a noble samurai who fights against the supernatural evil bought forth by evil warlords. I’d prefer they go with one of his earlier appearances, from Onimusha Warlords.
His outfit would be simple and direct. With rustic colors, and moves that utilize not only his various weapons, but also the Oni Gauntlet. Imagine slashing away at characters with sword combos, followed by using the Oni Gauntlet to steal health from your opponent. And once your super bar is filled, one of his supers could be the Oni Awakening, where he becomes temporarily faster, and takes less damage than normal. Imagine a faster Colossus’ Super Armor special in MvC2. I believe he’d be a perfect fit, and an addition to the game that no one is expecting.
2.) Sagat from the Street Fighter series is my next character. I believe he must have be excluded from the past games because M. Bison and characters like Vega were already included as Capcom villains, and maybe the rivalry between Ryu and Sagat would confuse casual players. Sagat is really more or less, a loner in the Street Fighter series now. Neither hero, nor villain. But that’s no reason to leave him out of the fight. He has awesome combos, a powerful stature, and an eye patch accessory that is bad ass enough to rival Nick Fury. Imagine him going toe to toe with the likes of Dr. Doom, or The Hulk? Just imagine.
Next character for the Capcom side of things is Donovan Baine! Donovan was introduced in the Darkstalkers video game series and is actually, a Darkhunter. Stalking all of the monster like characters and slaying them. With that type of character in mind, I think he would fit well as a guy who comes to the Marvel universe believing all of the super powered beings were evil. Especially Dormammu, and other mystical characters.
The last three characters that I’m going to drop on you are all characters who can be found in the Marvel Universe. Let me know what you think.
Taskmaster is a character that needs to be in the MvC3. He has an interesting background, and recently has been on the frontlines and in the pages of the most recent major Marvel event Dark Reign, that featured Norman Osbourne, the Green Goblin as the head of America’s defenses. He can hang with maybe the best of them, as a character who has an extreme level of photographic memory, and can use that to copy the fighting style of his opponents. The only issue that comes to mind though, is that he’d be the Seth/Mokujin/Chameleon style character. Which would be kind of boring, but story wise, he could be awesome. And maybe the option to throw in some throwback costumes to his earlier days wouldn’t hurt either!
Elektra Nothing like a female, ninja assassin to round out your roster. She wields the sais like nobodies business, and could have some pretty amazing combos if you utilize her background properly. Maybe have a few Hand ninjas at her disposal as well? She would be a great female addition to the game as a stealthy light weight character who can deal good damage when used correctly. Imagine her taking the place of a Strider type of character, only more badass with sais, and a handful of red ninjas at her disposal! And her story could bring Daredevil, and Bullseye into her cinematic ending as well! Maybe even throw in a Skrull version of Elektra to give a nod to the Secret Invasion storyline. As long as Capcom avoids any references to the Jennifer Gardner/Elektra movie. Let’s not go that route.
And finally, dear reader, the last character that I’d like to see added to the Marvel vs Capcom 3 roster -
Doctor Strange is a character that’s never before been seen in a video game such as this. He brings a level of mysticism that meshes with all. From his Marvel counterparts, to the Darkstalkers and their Capcom counterparts. His combos would open time rifts and unknown monsters against his opponents, and his supers would be devasting. I’ve always wished he was in MvC2, and hopefully he’ll be seen in 3. His story could encompass so many characters, its ridiculous. Dorammamu, Dr. Doom, Iron Man, Dante, Morrigan, and many more! Doctor Strange is the perfect character. From his costume, to what I’d imagine would be his colorful move set. The comic book style that the game is going for yearns to shown off with a character like this!
So dear reader, I hope you’ve found this article to tease your interest for this game. More characters are to be announced, surely within the month, and probably through January as we get closer to the games release date. These are just six characters I’d personally like to see be added to the game at some point, maybe even as DLC. But who would you like to see featured in Marvel vs. Capcom 3? Maybe you know of an obscure character that hasn’t had a decent treatment in several years? Let me know dear reader.
