Xbox LIVE Dashboard Update January 19

For those that have turned on our Xbox 360’s today we were hit with a mandatory update.  So what does this update entail?  Look no further because here is what held you up from throwing Call of Duty: Black Ops in this morning.

Xbox LIVE Dashboard update:

On Wednesday, January 19th we will issue a mandatory dashboard update that (re) enables the ‘Boot to Disc’ option in the Xbox 360 dashboard. After you accept the update, you’ll be able to set the option to boot to the Xbox 360 dashboard OR directly to the game you have in the tray when you power up your console. This option can be found in the System Settings.

So there you have it folks, just one more bit of information while we have you attention and this one is an update for that will happen tomorrow. update:

Additionally, on Thursday January 20th the team will ship an update that contains a small update to the Gamercards. We’ve updated the Gamercard look and feel a bit and removed gamerzone from the card. Other than that, the same amount of information is on the card.

Here is an example of the new card.

  • Hey Scott,
I just finsihed reading this but I am confused…
I specifically remember turning the “boot to disk” feature off in the past, meaning the on/off switch was already there. right? wasnt that one of the first things i did with my xbox?

    • I thought so too and it must have been removed and we never noticed it or in my case I never payed attention.

This is said to be because re-enabling is also designed to cause issues for users which altered the console’s firmware in order to circumvent the company’s anti-piracy measures for games.

    • Jason

I believe it was the autoload of a disc when put in the tray that was able to be turned off and on that you’re remembering.

  • i like the streamlined gamercard as the gamerzone meant nothing anyway

  • A warning to all my Xbox 360 fans with modded boxes. Beware of the 1/19/2011 update. Your missing some key points. The update was really to crack down on modders and hackers- yet the update only works on certain games. See-

  • I installed the update and now my brand new non-modded Xbox won’t read any discs, claiming that they are unreadable after loading for about 10 seconds.

    • Frustrated

I would give MS a call or if you use Twitter hit them up on there (@XboxSupport)I have had no problems on any of the consoles in my home after the update

  • downloading on one of my machines now
