Square Enix Announces Final Fantasy XIII-2

Square Enix has just announced the release of a sequel for Final Fantasy XIII, the latest multimillion seller title from the Final Fantasy franchise.

Production for FFXIII-2 is underway, with promises of a new story and an evolved combat system that will set this Final Fantasy apart from their previous high quality titles. While this is good news for Final Fantasy fans everywhere it isn’t really that surprising. Square Enix has been making their trademark franchise since the first title in series back in 1987.

Since 1987 Square Enix has sold 97 million units world wide of its famous Final Fantasy RPG series and shows no signs of stopping, and why should it? Some of the greatest RPGs ever made have come from the Final Fantasy series, and even games that didn’t follow the traditional RPG mold, such as the tactics series were an astounding success among fans. I would have been surprised had Square Enix not followed up with a sequel.

While FFXIII may not have been the greatest Final Fantasy game to date, it still had a solid RPG experience that fans love and keep coming back enjoy. Now with the announcement of a sequel we can hope that Square Enix will succeed in their promises to deliver an even greater RPG experience with FFXIII-2.

Fans can expect the release of FFXIII-2 for PlayStation 3 and the Xbox360 come next winter.

In the meantime feel free to watch the teaser trailer over and over while you wet your appetites further.

  • i just don’t understand why exactly they would take the worst final fantasy in the main series(not counting x-2, 11, or 14) and make a sequal. this game almost cannot be classified as an rpg and definatly takes the series in the wrong direction.( no towns, open-world exploration, character interaction, side-quests, gripping story line) they took everything that defined the series and took it away.

  • cody stfu you piece of shit and go die. ff13 was great

  • That might be the funniest thing I have seen this week. Rude obnoxious trolling at its very best(worst). Codyisabitch, you are hilarious! However I do agree with Cody in that FFXIII was one of the most restrictive titles in the series to date. I also feel like the story lacked real depth. I am not, however, opposed to a sequel. I think that a sequel to the game might be able to salvage the lack luster gameplay on the original. The visuals and characters were awesome and I feel like FFXIII left a lot to be desired in the way of character relationships. A sequel could be just what the doctor ordered.

  • Sequel to worst Final Fantasy ever? This is not a Final Fantasy VIII sequel is it?

Maybe a battle system change will be the ability to control your entire party…

  • -_-

    i agree… he is a troll

  • Cody, shut up and go back to playing FF7 Crisis Core.

Anyway to get back to the topic at hand. I enjoyed much of Final Fantasy 10 and Final Fantasy 13, done by the same staff and same overall presentation. They were both great games.

I was disappointed that there was NOT more interaction as far as side quests & towns in FF10 in both Bevelle and Luca, and felt the same disappointment that we didn’t get some quality side quests in the towns in FF13 actually.

I would have liked some more story related side quests and especially a fighting colliseum in FF13, undoubtedly. That and more interactive towns, a few worthwhile mini games and a trip back to Nautilus would make FF13-2 undoubtedly one of the best FF games for me yet.

And with the time they have to concentrate on those details…more power to them even if its two BD discs/ four DVDs long. Love RPGs like that. It will give a great apology for some of the faults in FF10 & FF13…

  • I don’t about what any of you have to say FFXIII was awesome so was FFVII crisis core I can’t wait for FFXIII-2 to come out I already have it reserved at game stop so you all just shut the hell up period end of discussion
