App Store Hits 10 Billion Downloads

Yesterday, the 10 billionth app was downloaded from the App Store. That is a one with ten zeros behind it. The 160 million iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad users have each downloaded an average of 62.5 apps on their devices.

The 10 billionth app downloaded and currently the #2 free app

The very lucky downloader of the 10 billionth app was Gail Davis from the United Kingdom. She downloaded the #2 free app, Paper Glider (also a game, of course!). Her prize for clicking “Install” at just the right moment? A $10,000 iTunes Gift Card, courtesy of Apple.

With the opening of the App Store on Macs and Verizon becoming a carrier for the iPhone, it seems like only a matter of time before we are talking about the 100 billionth downloaded app. I wonder what the prize is going to be for that… a $100,000 iTunes Gift Card?
