Deadwood Creator Adapting Heavy Rain Movie

You might recognize the name David Milch from television series like Deadwood or NYPD Blue (god, when was the last time you heard that name, right?) or, if you happen to be into the equine, thoroughbred horse racing, but now you’ll remember him as the guy who adapted Heavy Rain for the silver screen.

Variety reports that Warner Bros. and Unique Features will team up and be “fast-tracking” this movie out into the money making world. They’re apparently banking on Milch’s Deadwood sensibilities to take hold and attempt to “transform intense and complex storylines into gripping, popular drama,” which he’ll have to work doubly hard on this one considering not only was Heavy Rain as intertwining and elaborate as the Pulp Fiction timeline, but how he’ll consolidate multiple endings unfolding over the course of 12 hours into a 1.5 hour story is probably still a mystery to even himself.

I’m cautiously optimistic, but only because we might get to see apparent video game movie star Mark Wahlberg yell “Jason!” over and over again in a crowded, clown-ridden mall in a half-Canadian, half-god awful accent. If that’s not high quality cinema, then I don’t know what is.
