Marvel’s FF Is No Longer The Fantastic Four

For those who don’t know, the Fantastic Four is no more. Johnny Storm, AKA The Human Torch, has died. Without Torch there is no Fantastic Four. For a couple months Marvel has been soliciting a new series titled FF. The only information about the series was the writer and artist. Now we know more about FF and the future of the surviving members of the Fantastic Four.

FF stands for The Future Foundation. Made up of Mr. Fantastic, Invisible Woman, The Thing, newcomer Spider-Man (that dude is EVERYWHERE) and others not yet known, The Future Foundation’s mission is to stop the biggest threats in the Marvel Universe and prevent future threats from coming to be.

It looks like the former members of the Fantastic Four are leaving behind their legacy to pursue this new mission. The death of one of their own may have changed their outlook on the world and their role as heroes. Their new costumes leave nothing to remind you of the old. I like that Marvel is willing to give the team such a different look compared to their old costumes. A hero’s costume is extremely important in comic books. It shows that Marvel isn’t afraid to take the characters in a much different direction than they have in the past.

The addition of Spider-Man and other heroes also shows me just how big this new mission must be. The Fantastic Four have faced Dr. Doom and Galactus. What could be so big a threat that they need more members to help them? The Fantastic Four have always been the closest super hero team in the Marvel Universe. How will their relationships with each other change with Torch gone? Jonathan Hickman, the writer of the series, always has some amazing ideas for the books he writes so I’m excited to see where he takes these characters.
