Remember hearing about Bizarre closing down and then Activision trying to sell Bizarre? Well it seems it’s gone back to closing down, this Friday apparently. Develop reported yesterday afternoon that on February 18th it will be Bizarre Creations’ closing time. Their employees certainly don’t have to go home, but they definitely can not stay there.
Bizarre has created a few titles we all know and love. Their first popular game being Metropolis Street Racer on the Dreamcast back in 2000, almost 11 years ago. Their next big name game of fame was Project Gotham Racing, lasting an amazing four games from 2001 to 2007. The PGR games, in my opinion, being better than the Gran Turismo games I wonder how this studio got closed down, maybe they didn’t have the required six year development time between each PGR game? I kid of course.
The next game is my personal favorite of theirs, Geometry Wars. What started off as a mini-game inside of PGR 2 became a classic XBLA, DS, Wii, and iPod Touch game. One of their latest games was a game I never got around to playing, Blur. A new arcade racing game in the style of Mario Kart, surely you would think this game would keep Bizarre on track for a long and prosperous journey, unfortunately the case is not so. And of course, last, but I don’t think at all least, 007 Blood Stone. Featuring Daniel Craig’s likeness and voice and being the second Bond game to have an original story, this game seemed it was destined to do great things, again not the case.
I’m not sure about any of you out there, but for me Friday, February 18th will be a sad day. Goodbye Bizarre Creations, I and hopefully many others will miss you.
