Followers of Felicia Day’s twitter feed can stop holding their breath; fellow gamer cutie pie has finally come forth with word about her “secret project”.
Writer and star of the critically acclaimed series The Guild has announced her new project called Dragon Age: Redemption. While it may sound like a clash between two prominent franchises, Redemption is set to take place in Ferelden, the key location in BioWare’s Dragon Age: Origins and it’s upcoming sequel Dragon Age II (sorry, no John Marston here). Day, who is writing and co-producing the six episode web series, has cast herself as the part of Tallis, a feisty yet ruthless Elven solider who embarks on a journey to find and capture an apostate magician, killing all Darkspawn that encumber her path.
“Tallis is headstrong, she fights dirty, and she has a really sarcastic sense of humor,” says Day. “I wanted to bring a modern sensibility to a fantasy character in a fantasy world.”
Greg Zeschuck, co-founder of BioWare, has been working with Day throughout the project, stating that Day’s dedication and commitment is what convinced the studio that she was right for the job. “We are really, really excited to work with people like her who have a passion and appreciation for the content and a really good history of quality. That’s who we want to work with.”
Peter Winther, associate producer for Independence Day, has been chosen to direct the series while John Bartley (Lost) is on board as cinematographer.
“I am an organic gamer and I love games, and I particularly love this franchise,” Day says. “I put every single effort into making this something that gamers will be proud of. Even though we were constrained a lot as a Web series, none of the people who were involved took that as a constraint. They took that as a challenge.”
Dragon Age: Redemption is currently in post-production, and is set to be released later this year. Dragon Age II will hit stores March 8.
