Haunted Majora’s Mask Cartridge Ends With ARG

If you can recall to last September, an odd little story cropped up in the video game world. It wasn’t exactly news nor was it exactly something to be dismissed as easily as Twitter spam. No, it was an oddly engrossing tale of a poor fellow who happened upon the one Majora’s Mask cartridge that possibly housed the spirit of a dead boy.

Well, it turns out that was merely the first step in a grand scheme that, evidently, culminates in an ARG, or alternate reality game (and not “augmented reality game” because not only is the distinction quite important but also having two game genres fall under one acronym is just stupid). Jadusable says his “Within Hubris” ARG will end in this playable conclusion to the cartridge horror.

The end goal is to defeat the entity by whatever means are necessary, including playing the subverted game on your computer, inducing reality-bending moments and tasks that blend your world with the game world and may result in “disturbing, fourth-wall breaking moments.” Here’s the trailer, though fair warning: it makes little to no sense.

It is recommended that if you have no idea what I’m talking about (and I don’t blame you because, like I said, that trailer is whack), you start here with this thread on the official website. I’m not sure how excited I am by all this, but I know I’m definitely intrigued.
