Welcome to Platform Nation’s weekly feature where we inform you, the reader, on all the game releases you should be looking out for.
Each week as well as bringing you news about which games are due to hit the shelves in the seven days ahead, the Platform Nation writer will choose their pick of the week.
My pick for this week is:
Homefront:
Homefront: set in a near-future, post peak oil world that features a significantly declined United States, and a united Korea that has built a massive alliance in East Asia. The Gate Corporation (a major private military company) also plays a minor role. The game focuses on the collapse of the United States, subsequent occupation by the Greater Korean Republic – a united Korea under the rule of North Korea – and the American Resistance that fights said occupation. The player is invited to join the American resistance, “using guerrilla tactics, commandeering military vehicles, and utilizing advanced drone technology”, but the player may join the North Korean Forces as well but only in multiplayer matches. The game will also feature vehicle based 32 player online warfare using dedicated servers. The game is planned to ship on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.
My View: When previews started to compare this game to Half-Life 2 in terms of a strong story, it certainly got my attention. The fiction behind the story is not too far fetched and just within the realms of possibility which should make the experience that bit better as it should seem believable. Whether the game mechanics live up to the hype is the only thing preventing me from pre-ordering. I will wait one, maybe two weeks to read reviews (lookout for the Platform Nation one) before laying down some money.
