Mortal Kombat Kratos Trailer Released

NetherRealm studios just released an extended trailer showing off Kratos’ moves in the PS3 version of the upcoming Mortal Kombat game. We posted some new screenshots earlier today, so be sure to take a look at both.

After taking a look at the video, I have to say I’m happy that I’ll be picking this up for the Xbox 360, which as of now doesn’t have an exclusive character. I can just see noobs spamming Kratos online. His flow seems way to fast in comparison to the other characters in the game. I got to try the game myself a few weeks back, and I feel like Kratos is going to be similar to Link in Soul Caliber II, a cool addition for fans and a reason some will pick up the title, but definitely game breaking.

  • i just don’t get the whole exclusive character thing. Yoda in Soul Caliber 4, what was the point! I want a really balanced game and exclusive characters are marketing hype and nothing more

Agreed. But hey, it sells games, right? And Kratos would never be allowed to be on an Xbox 360 game due to licensing issues. It really doesn’t bother me as long as people recognize it for what it is.

  • I guess it’ll boil down to how the bonus character is implemented into the game. If he’s part of the main single player game, they’ll probably tune his AI to fit in wherever he’s faced by the player. For multiplayer, hopefully he’s either more-balanced than he seems in the video (and, really, all characters look pretty badass in their unique ‘reveal’ trailers), isn’t allowed, or can be easily avoided. As such, then you get the bonus if you ever want to try it, or you can simply ignore it. For instance, I don’t think I’ve once played the Star Wars guys in SC4, so no problem even if they were somehow totally broken.

    • Daniel Horowitz (HavenDan)

I’m sure he’ll have a single player campaign, but one that was similar to Link in SC II, like he got accidentally transported to the MK Universe or something like that. I actually played a good amount of SC IV online, and in my experience there were a LOT of Yoda players who just kept spamming the annoying forward lunge. Over time though, he became pretty easy to beat. Only played for 360 though so I never really fought any Vader as I stopped playing before they made him DLC. Then again, they were nothing in comparison to the broken monstrosity that was Link in SCII, but that was before the era of standardized online play so that if you’re friend was playing Link next to you, you could call him out on it and he would either

      A) Stop playing Link
      B) Continue playing Link and ruin your already fragile friendship

True that the trailer is made to make the character look badass, but still Kratos just seems a bit too potent and easy to play.

  • I do like how they put QTE moves in for Kratos.. a funny and appropriate nod..
