Gamasutra is reporting that Blizzard has just made a donation of $800,000 to the Make-a-Wish organization in order to bring smiles to the faces of sick children. As promised, Blizzard donated 50% of the proceeds from the Moonkin Hatcling pet that was released in November and December of 2010 in World of Warcraft. The pet was a $10 buy, and over 160,000 pets were sold.
Right before this announcement, Blizzard released another $10 pet called the Cenarion Hatchling and will donate 100 percent sales of that pet between its release and July 31st to the American Red Cross in their Japan Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami relief effort.
This is not the first time that Blizzard has donated to the Make-A-Wish foundation. In November of 2009, Blizzard created the Pandaren Monk pet and raised $1.1 million during a two month sale, which it donated to Make-A-Wish.
“We’ve had a long relationship with the Make-A-Wish Foundation and are proud to help contribute to the great work they do for children,” says Blizzard CEO and co-founder Mike Morhaime. ”
We’re also proud of the spirit and generosity of our players – their enthusiasm for World of Warcraft and for supporting a good cause made this donation possible.”
