Soul Calibur V Announced; Teaser Trailer Released

Namco Bandai, the company that created fighting franchises Soul Calibur and Tekken, have just announced this morning in a conference in Dubai that Soul Calibur V is currently in the works.

Producer Hisaharu Tago confirmed the development of the game and has stated that it will take place 17 years after the events of Soul Caliber IV and will feature characters both old and new. It’s not like Soul Caliber was ever known for its highly convoluted story anyway.

Soul Caliber V will also feature an expanded character creation system, which was one of the best parts of Soul Caliber IV, as well as some new features.

“Soul Calibur V is set to advance the series’ legacy of white-knuckled weapon-based combat, beautiful graphics and groundbreaking features, entrancing newcomers and long-time fans alike,”

“The tale of Patroklos, son of Sophitia Alexandra, unfolds as his family’s destiny intertwines with the Soul swords. With the series revolutionary 8-way run, allowing for true 3D movement during matches, a refined battle system, and stunning graphics, Soul Calibur V will be the top game of 2012 for anyone looking for a knock-down, drag-out fight

I can’t tell you how excited I am for this game. I have such fond memories of Soul Calibur II and IV. As an unruly, patchy bearded jew-fro wearing 14 year old, I once nearly assaulted a casual friend for constantly playing Link on the Gamecube version of Soul Calibur II. I have equally fond memories of nearly destroying my relationships with some of my best friend’s over over-competitiveness in the game. We worked it out though.

But I still find myself constantly quoting some of the hilarious “pretentious fools” from this game and still occasionally looking at my gallery of custom created Fire Emblem characters.

The game will release sometime in 2012 and will be available for the Xbox 360 and PS3 and this is just pure speculation, but possibly for Project Cafe as well.

Also be sure to check out the teaser trailer below, which doesn’t really reveal anything and is really just a series of cool and sexy images.
