From Dust

We’ve already discussed what’s lined up for Ubisoft’s E3 conference, and while most of you are getting pumped to hear all about the new Assassin’s Creed, one of the games I’m most interested in is From Dust, developed by Eric Chahi (known most notably for Another World), coming to XBLA, PSN and PC this summer.

From Dust is a strategy game in which you play God. You are not all powerful, however. Your objective is to mold and shape the environment in order to help the indigenous tribe discover the culture and memories they’ve lost from the result of some, as of yet, unexplained phenomenon. While you explore and attempt to uncover the past you must also find ways to protect the tribe from catastrophic events like tsunamis, earthquakes, and volcanic eruptions.

The game mechanics are modeled on real world physics. Water and lava flow naturally, and once the seeds are planted, flora propagates by itself. Much like a time-lapse video, we won’t have to wait thousands of years to see the products of erosion or to watch each plant grow to maturity. You can watch your island landscape flourish into a vast, lush paradise or watch it quickly sink into the sea all in a matter of seconds.

The artwork is stunningly beautiful as you can see in the gameplay trailer below and I, for one, am stoked to see the final product.

Be sure to tune in to Ubisoft’s E3 conference live on June 6th 2:30PM PST. All the details can be found here.
