Best Buy Unlocks Gamers Club To A Paid Level

GameStop has their Power Up Rewards card. Best Buy, on the other hand, has had the much-less-publicized Gamers Club. Available to Reward Zone members, Gamers Club offers standard promotions, alongside their magazine @Gamer. On September 12th, the program is upgrading to a free and paid scheme.

For $14.99 annually, gamers will now get…

  • A subscription to their magazine, @Gamer
  • 10% off pre-owned software
  • 10% bonus credit on trade-ins
  • Exclusive offers
Until then, gamers will continue to get 500 bonus Reward Zone points for every $150 spent on video game purchases. After this date, all members will be part of the Gamers Club, but will have the opportunity to buy the Unlocked plan. Retroactively, all purchases since June 1st will have earned double points on gaming purchases.
Does this make you want to go buy some games at Best Buy, or are you angry that the paid plan offers not much more than GameStop’s?

“Until then, gamers will continue to get 500 bonus Reward Zone points for every $150 spent on video game purchases. After this date, all members will be part of the Gamers Club, but will have the opportunity to buy the Unlocked plan.”

So you mean they are scrapping that benefit once the new plays are put in place? Or that the benefit is exclusive to paying members?

Unlike Gamestops program, BB’s Gamer Club wasent really a “program”, it kind of existed alongside the Reward Zone and all it really meant was occasional coupons for videogames and extra points awarded for video game purchases. It was never pushed hard so its not surprising it was unpopular.
This premium tier is actually a good deal. The articles in @Gamer are pretty poor, but the coupons are excellent. Someone who shops at bestbuy a lot could benefit pretty easily from this.

Why would I want double points if now I get almost 4.5 points per dollar spent with the CURRENT program? (500 bonus points for every $150 spent, in ADDITION to the regular points for the $150 spent). Sounds to me like they are scaling back. That’s one of the reasons I went to best buy for my gaming purposes. Now, there’s really no need because gamestop has a similar program and they have a lot more pre-owned inventory.
