A Simple Question: Gaming Backlogs

There’s an undeniable truth out in the world that everyone must one day come to grips with.  What is it? As you get older, your time to game will never be greater than your available free time.  And, if you’re also like me, you probably still continue to buy games at a rate that’s pretty close to what you’ve done in the past, even with less and less time to play.  So what happens as a result?  Gaming backlogs.  Those games you buy with the best intentions of playing them, only to have them sit on your shelf for months… or years.  Maybe you even pop it into the console for an hour or two before moving on to another game, telling yourself you’ll come back to it tomorrow.  Whatever the reasons, everyone can attest to having a game backlog of some sort. Which brings me to this week’s question:

How long have you owned a game that is currently backlogged (that you still have an interest in playing)?

(You may need to refresh the page to see the poll below)

Don’t count games that you tried once and didn’t really care for, but may one day play again.  I’m talking about games that you have every intention of playing, and would today if it wasn’t for something else just a little bit higher on the priority list.  I can safely say that I have had Burnout Paradise for probably 3 years now, and still haven’t done much beyond a few races in it.  Devil May Cry 4, Lego Indiana Jones and Condemned 2 are all also on that 2+ year list for me.  Hell, I had Halo: Reach for 6 months before I decided to play it, and even though I loved the story, it still took a back burner to other games, dragging out my completion time on it to 2 months.  And yet, I’m currently playing Oblivion on my 8th run-through.  I know, I know.. I have a problem.  But this will be the last time, I swear!

Keep an eye out in #PNASQ on Monday when I’ll pose next week’s question. Want to sound off? Vote above, and comment below!

A Simple Question (ASQ) is a weekly segment for Platform Nation. Each week on Monday, I’ll ask a question on Twitter at #PNASQ. Give a response and let the world know what you think; there is no right or wrong answer here. If you have a suggestion for a question, hit me up on twitter @vttym.

Devil May Cry 4 , Lost Planet,  BioShock 1 + 2, though I don’t really care for the gameplay. I just have games to add to my Library.

Beaten Halo Reach, Crysis 2, Halo 1, 2, 3, 3-ODST (Very Quickly Too), I managed to get halfway into BorderLands before i got bored.  I beat Ghost Recon Advanced War Fighter 2 quickly. I loved that, but Rainbow 6… not as quick, mainly because I’m not enjoying the urban warfare in it. a hanging paper lamp was blocking my fire even though the terrorist was clearly in my sights, and well… the story is lame. Waiting on Ghost Recon Future Soldier. I have 100% (not including flags, just side missions/ game completion) in Assassins Creed 1,2, Brotherhood and I have pre-ordered Revelations.  I’ve beaten Splinter Cell Double Agent and Conviction (I’ve also beaten the Co-Op pre-story). I got close to the end of Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow, but the game is aged, and well. I do enjoy a game to look somewhat good… I can still play Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess, but a game like Splinter Cell after playing Conviction and Double Agent… nah.
What else.. I own like 33 games. I’ve beaten Alan Wake twice. That was an awesome story. Recently beat Dragon Age Origins. Darksiders was fun. Mainly, if i like a game, I’ll beat it. if not, it’ll sit in my Library collecting dust. Example = BioShock 1 + 2. I’m still working on Just Cause 2. Which I’ll get too now.

I cannot really begin to list my backlog. I still have plenty of last-gen stuff in shrinkwrap. If you’d like to know, check out “Lawman” on CheapAssGamer. I don’t trade in any games, and by and large, any “beatable” games that aren’t marked as complete are on my backlog.

PC stuff is not included in that list. 🙁

It’s pretty hopeless, and I struggle now with my mortality as it relates to my ability to experience everything I want to.

I bought Cryostasis over a year ago and I want to play it but I am a big baby when it comes to scary games.

Tym, let me save you a few hours, skip Condemned 2, everything that is good about the original is absent in the sequel.

    • Really? That’s unfortunate. I liked the first chapter.. oh well, I still want to bring it to a close.. I guess I just push it back a notch or two.

First one that comes to mind is the Bourne game.  Bought it with a few others months ago and still haven’t popped it in.  But I want to.

Im looking to buy a system and a hand held. I like playing games from PS2 but the graffics are far better on PS3. Im also a Zelda Fan and im looking for a hand held that has most zelda games to play….. Any ideas???? I know w/ the gamecube you could buy the extension to play gameboy games onto ur tv. Those allow mostly Zelda games. I also have the emulators for Sega Gen; N64, SNES, NES, Atari, & Gameboy. Trying to find one for PS2 but it requires money. Let me know what system to buy for my tv, ok?

I’ve also been playing video games since the age of six, starting with the first computer games (donkey kong vs intro to mario) and (Qbert), afterwards I got the atari 2600 and have been playing pretty much with every game system i’ve either owned or used via friend’s house (that in cludes hand held systems -game boys, psp, ds, nds, dslight, sega gear, ect). Now I play mostly on my computer, like I said in previous comments, I got the pc emulators for most games systems that came out:  ATARI, GAME BOY, GAME BOY COLOR, SEGA GENESIS, NINTENDO, SUPER NITENDO, NINTENDO 64, DREAM CAST, GAME CUBE, (ALL ROMS INCLUDED FOR EACH EMULATOR SYSTEM), trying to find the emulator for the PS2 and XBOX, but as far as I can see……..it requires $$$$$. But I will keep looking!
