The pocket edition of indie hit Minecraft has been released today on Sony Ericsson’s Xperia Play. It’s priced at $6.99 and developer Mojang promises that the game will receive frequent updates. At launch the game includes:
- Randomized worlds
- Build anything you can imagine
- Build with 36 different kinds of blocks
- Invite and play with friends to your world (local wireless network)
- Save multi-player worlds on your own phone
For now Minecraft Pocket Edition is an Xperia Play timed exclusive, although ports to iOS and other Android handsets will likely follow in the future. Once they do it’s not unlikely that Minecraft’s eleven million players could turn into 50 million or more. For now though it’s quite a big exclusive for the Xperia Play to have, but will it be enough to shift more units of the phone?
If you happen to own an Xperia Play and haven’t tried this on the PC then you owe it to yourself to snap up a copy, as while sadly I haven’t been able to try the pocket edition for myself, the PC version is very, very good.
If you’ve had a chance to try it out let us know what you think in the comments.
