Another day at PAX has passed and it’s time for another recap. Saturday was yet another great day with friends and games.
The day started off with a little bit of hungover breakfast burritos for me. I wanted to start it off with one of my special juices but the place at the convention center decided to stop serving them during PAX because they were taking too long and the smoothie place next to us wasn’t open yet. So I had to settle back with an old friend, my hungover breakfast burritos.
From there it was off to the media room to get some PAX posts up on the site, posts that I hope you have been checking out over the weekend. After that it was back to the show floor to go look at some more games and to get some more interviews in. The first game that I got my hands on with was FireFall. I haven’t wrote anything up for it this year yet, I will, I just haven’t had the time. Check last years writeup to learn more for the time being. I will let you know though that I’m super excited for this free to play that will hopefully be in some type of public beta later on this year. It’s fun though, a lot of fun.
From there it was time for some Supremacy MMA. Think Tekken but with MMA, don’t think Undisputed, it’s not like that at all. Supremacy MMA wasn’t a bad game at all, it’s more for the people that watch MMA only during the big fights, wear foil shirts, get in bar fights type of crowd. It has a big time metal feel to it and it’s pretty arcady and gruesome with the blood, bone breaks and just about everything else. I honestly don’t know what the price is for this but if it’s not coming out at a bargin type of price, I don’t really see it picking up too much steam. I know the fighting genres have been coming back to life a little bit, but this game won’t fully appease those types of players nor will it fully reach out to the hardcore of the MMA fans. It’s pretty in the middle.
The last game I played at the event, yes I only played 3 games yesterday, was Trials Evolution. God I want this game. This might just be the most addicting XBLA game I’ve played and it’s just so polished and so much more improved over Trials HD it’s amazing. Add the off and online multiplayer and the full track editor that will be included, this game is a steal and one must buy this year. If you want to hear more about it, click the link earlier, that’s my full writeup on the game.
The day though wasn’t a full success. My 32GB memory card for my T2i decided to quit working for me completely so I had to make an emergency run to Staples downtown to pick up a new one. And because it wasn’t working I missed a chance to get my picture taken with UFC Bantamweight Champion, Dominick Cruz. The Airforce guys there took one for me with their camera, but they haven’t uploaded the pictures yet so I can’t get mine. This was a big deal for me though because I do follow the UFC pretty religiously, just like my Apple products.
Speaking of the UFC, so after my interviews were all done for the day, it was time for me to head on over to FOX Sports Bar and Grill here downtown. They were showing the PPV and I wasn’t going to miss UFC Rio. The card itself was one amazing card, one of the best cards I’ve ever seen. Each fight managed to get more impressive and it capped off the night with another superstar performance by Anderson Silva as he KO’d Yushin Okami.
Once the fights were over I headed back to join the Platform Nation crew as they were all at the Sega party that was over at Gameworks. They were all having a fun time drinking and playing video games there, I believe our own Jeremiah Hill was owning everyone on one of the fighting games, I’m not sure which one it was though. And that’s how our night pretty much ended. Just all of us having a fun time, just hanging out, bullshitting, and talking about games. That’s kind of what PAX is about and like I said yesterday, if you haven’t been out to a PAX before, you need to. They are all pretty damn amazing with all the awesome people who come from all around the world for games, friends and just to have a fun time.
