Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Will Feature Full Steam Integration

Valve has just announced that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, the sequel to one of the biggest FPS games of all time, will feature full integration with Steam.

Modern Warfare 3 will use the Steamworks suite of service. Both the digital and physical copies of the game will use Steamworks, providing the game with “auto-updating, achievements, and more”. “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will also support dedicated servers on day 1.”

The Steamworks suite includes a massive variety of tools and features. It has not been disclosed how closely Modern Warfare 3 will use the suite. Other possible features include matchmaking, Steam Cloud support, and integrated Steam Community features.

This announcement marks a move forward for the PC version of Call of Duty. Modern Warfare 2 featured Steamworks as well, using Valve’s VAC system for their anti-cheating software (instead of Punkbuster) and featured Steam Cloud integration. This announcement also comes following the spat between Valve and EA over Battlefield 3, and other future EA titles, coming to Steam.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is available for pre-order on Steam for $59.99. Modern Warfare 3 will release worldwide on November 8th. Users who pre-order from Steam will have instant access to the game when it releases.
