A Simple Question: Gears Of War 3 Week 1 Sales

You’ve probably heard it already, but people really like Gears of War.  Not only has the franchise eclipsed $1 billion in sales, but the latest installment, Gears of War 3, sold 3 million copies in the first week.  Not bad for a console exclusive title.  While Gears is enjoying the spotlight right now, there are some considerable contenders still to come this year, that might knock Gears down a notch or two.  It made me wonder:

Will Gears of War 3 by the only game to sell over 3 million copies on a single console in the first week in 2011?

When you look at the upcoming list of titles to be released, this question doesn’t seem so crazy.  Battlefield 3, Skyrim, Modern Warfare 3, Skyward Sword, The Old Republic.  I could go on, but that’s some pretty stiff competition as it is.  I wanted to level the playing field and focus on sales on a single console, since many of these games are multi-platform and would likely eclipse 3 million across the board.  I personally think 2 games threaten Gears of War 3’s sales number: Modern Warfare 3 on the Xbox 360, and Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword.  Say what you will about the Wii, but it still has a huge install base, and worldwide, Zelda will sell big in the first week.

What do you think?  Vote above, and leave your comments below as to what games (and on what system) will beat 3 million copies in its first week.
