Hack n’ slash just got a little bit better, thanks to Capcom’s recently announced Devil May Cry HD Collection coming early 2012. But, unlike the very impressive, recently released, Shadow of the Colossus and Ico collection that has been filling my gaming void for these past weeks, the Devil May Cry Collection will be available for Xbox 360 as well as PlayStation 3. With the Devil May Cry Collection, we will be seeing the glorious return of three of Capcom’s golden classics including: Devil May Cry (the original), Devil May Cry 2, and Devil May Cry 3: Dante’s Awakening Special Edition. Aside from the HD graphics, the special edition of Dante’s Awakening will include the ability to play as Dante’s brother Vergil, as well as some other juicy features, such as Bloody Palace and Turbo mode.
I have been highly satisfied with the HD collections I have picked up in the past for my PlayStation 3, and will likely be picking this one up as well. Hack n’ slash has always been one of my favorite genres, and the Devil May Cry games have always had a special place in my heart (right beside God of War and Ninja Gaiden). If you are unfamiliar with the Devil May Cry games, or if you simply never got around to playing them during the PS2’s glory days, then here is your chance. The convoluted story of these games is a little hard to follow, but the gameplay has always been an over the top, fast paced, demon killing party that never seems to disappoint. Plus, Dante is just so cool…
This collection won’t be hitting the shelves until next year, so unfortunately, Santa won’t be seeing this one on the kiddie’s Christmas lists this holiday season. But when you consider the life consuming list of awesome titles that I will be forced yes, forced to play this holiday (such as Skyrim, Star Wars The Old Republic, and others), it’s nice to know that there is still something waiting for me on the horizon. If you are a die-hard Dante fan, you will want to be on the look out for this one. Who can beat three great, remastered games for $39.99? Indeed, the Devil May Cry when he sees how much fun you are having with this collection. Did you see what I did there? You know, cause the game is called Devil May Cr…. yea.
As a side note, if you are looking for something to hold you over, I highly recommend the Shadow of the Colossus collection. It looks stellar on a good HD TV, you won’t be disappointed.
