Assassin’s Creed Ezio Now Appearing In Soulcalibur V

The upcoming new entry to the Soulcalibur games has now received an official release date, as well as a bonus character from one of Ubisoft’s most successful series.

After previous rumors, it was confirmed by Namco in the latest trailer for Soulcalibur V that Assassin’s Creed’s own Ezio Auditore will be appearing as a playable character in the game. In his ‘Brotherhood outfit,’ Ezio will feature some of his signature weapons including a crossbow, his longsword, and the hidden blade. Some of his attacks from the Assassin’s Creed games will also make its way as special moves. Taking place during the Renaissance period (same time as “Assassin’s Creed II” and “Brotherhood”), they were able to implement Ezio into the game story easily.

“It was always right there in front of our eyes that it was Assassin’s Creed and Ezio,” Project Soul producer Hisaharu Tago told to Eurogamer in an extensive hands-on with Ezio. “He was just a perfect match. At that point we contacted Ubisoft.”

The development team is also considering if he can be used for competition even with his large amount of weapons he can use. In previous Soulcalibur games, exclusive characters like Star Wars’ Yoda and The Legend of Zelda’s Link were prone to controversy in tournament play as they were either overpowered or console specific.

Regarding other additional characters like Ezio, Project Soul responded “No comment.” A pre-order bonus does however feature “Soulcalibur: Broken Destiny” character Lord Geo Dampierre as a playable character.

Soulcalibur V will be available on Xbox 360 and PlayStation in regular and collectors editions for North American markets on Jan. 31, 2012.
