FUNimation, the company behind the American releases of Dragonball Z, One Piece, Fullmetal Alchemist, and countless other iconic Japanese animation series, has become the dominant force in their field. While Bandai Entertainment, Nozomi Entertainment, and other companies fight over the rest of the field, FUNimation’s quickly grown from upstart to overpowered. Recently, they’ve announced a partnership with NicoNico to expand their licensing with a new company, Funico. Today, FUNimation announced greater integration with GameSamba.
Gen Fukunaga, founder, President, and CEO of FUNimation Entertainment, has been named the first Chairman of the Board of Directors of GameSamba. Behind games such as Remnant Knights, Realms Online, and other online games, GameSamba brings games to Taiwan and America.
“I see this collaborative relationship as a bridge between the online gaming and anime worlds and allows both companies many opportunities to work together effectively and in many imaginative ways,” said Fukunaga. “Their games – Realms Online, Remnant Knights, and Tribal Trouble 2 – are such winners, I had to be a bigger part of this company and invest significant capital into it.”
While there’ve been no word on GameSamba publishing games based on FUNimation properties, the connection will increase the cross-promotion capabilities of the companies.
