Mass Effect 3 Campaign Details Leaked – No Story Spoilers Inside

A Mass Effect beta was available to those who were in the trial for Microsoft’s new dashboard update. Those who downloaded and played the beta have reported that when a player starts a new game, they are given three options:

  1. Action mode – The game will revolve around the combat sections and will reduce the number of story based decisions that a player has to make.
  2. Story mode – The opposite of Action mode, wherein the focus is on the story with the difficulty level of the game lowered to allow for players to experience the story without worrying about the combat.
  3. RPG mode – The standard Mass Effect experience, giving the player full control over both combat and story.

According to BioWare, the leak was due to human error, and the beta should not have uploaded. The games producer Jesse Houston was also keen to stress that:

The leaked code is in a rough, unfinished state and was not meant for public release. The content is not final, and is not reflective of the quality of the finished, polished game due for release.

Mass Effect 3 is due for release in early March 2012.

  • I managed to download and play the demo before it was all shutdown.  It was very rough – missing lots of audio and using rough textures in many areas.  It was not meant for public viewing, but it was fun getting a peek at the future demo.
