Tonight, Eric Lempel VP at Sony Entertainment Network, announced the release of PS3 System software 4.00. To be released this week in preparation for the PlayStation Vita launch in Japan, the update is primarily aimed at making the PS3 Vita-ready. Calling the PS3 a content management device, this update will facilitate all the possible interconnectvity between the Vita and a PS3. With 4.00, Vita owners will be able to swap digital content like music an movies, and backup Vita game saves and data to the PS3.
The update also brings more granular control over automatic feature updates enjoyed by PlayStation Plus subscribers. Instead of a general on/off switch, Plus members will soon be able to individually control what is updated or synced like patches and trophies.
