Yep, the time has come to call it a day here at Platform Nation, well, kind of at least. On January 18, Platform Nation will be joining several other sites all around the Internet in protesting the internet censor bills that are currently in the House and Senate. Check out the video below, they do a whole lot of a better job explaining the entire situation then I can.
PROTECT IP / SOPA Breaks The Internet from Fight for the Future on Vimeo.
The freedom, innovation, and economic opportunity that the Internet enables is in jeopardy. Congress is considering legislation that will dramatically change your Internet experience and put an end to reddit and many other sites you use everyday. Internet experts, organizations, companies, entrepreneurs, legal experts, journalists, andindividuals have repeatedly expressed how dangerous this bill is. If we do nothing, Congress will likely pass the Protect IP Act (in the Senate) or the Stop Online Piracy Act (in the House), and then the President will probably sign it into law. There are powerful forces trying to censor the Internet, and a few months ago many people thought this legislation would surely pass. However, there’s a new hope that we can defeat this dangerous legislation.
via Reddit.
So what can you do to help? Check out sites like Fight for the Future, Sopa Strike, American Censorship, and of course, Reddit. There is so much great information on all these sites as well as things you can do to help. I urge you, please, go out and show your support to help defeat these bills and keep our Internet free and open.
Listen, this is no joke, the internet as we know it is as stake here. Check out the links above, educate yourself on this topic and please do your part and help spread the word!
