Prada And Lightning: Fashion In Final Fantasy

Guys, I’m confused. Prada is combining forces with Square Enix and is showcasing their 2012 Spring/Summer collection on Final Fantasy XIII-2 characters such as Lightning, Hope, and Sazh. The April 2012 issue (on sale April 12th) of Arena Homme+ aims to focus on a “world of direction and escapism” with the “visually stunning” Final Fantasy franchise. What I see is Hope wearing one of the weirdest shirts I’ve ever seen.

“I’ve always been interested by the power of videogames and their place in society,” says Arena Homme+ editor Max Pearmain. FFXIII-2 producer Yoshinori Kitase added, “The FINAL FANTASY series is known for its creativity and innovation; so working with Prada, a renowned fashion house with such beautiful clothing, was a very exciting opportunity. The images we have been able to create together are vibrant and unique.”

I know this isn’t the first time fashion and video games have found their way into each other’s arms, but this one somehow makes less sense to me than the Pyramid Head thing. Aren’t Final Fantasy XIII-2 character designs dominated by buckles, pointy garnishes, and layers of leather? I don’t know if Prada even makes shields and feather, um, trails.
