CryENGINE 3 Tessellates Your Way

You may have seen yesterday that Crysis 3 (Trisis? Threesis? Hello? Is this thing on?) was officially announced for Spring of 2013. This probably shouldn’t be a surprise to you for a multitude of reasons, nor should it be that big of a surprise that this third entry in the series will feature the third iteration of the super capable CryENGINE.

While the announcement didn’t feature any gameplay (just some very pretty screenshots), this video accompanying the latest CryENGINE 3 SDK update shows off some of what is possible with the new engine. You’ll get to see refined ears, bokeh’d fishmen, and a Baskin-Robbins-sized scoop of tessellation.

If you’re into game development, let alone an actual user of CryENGINE 3, this is some pretty neat stuff. Particle shadowing? Sub-surface light scattering?! BARRELS?!?! I can barely contain my excitement!

I know that came off as sarcasm, but really, this is pretty cool.
