So you might have seen a couple days ago that the Game of the Year edition of Batman: Arkham City was announced, but did you see the box art? Just try to remember, if you can, the way you came away from the original marketing for Arkham City slightly impressed. The art was minimalist and clean, a fine way to contrast the dirt and grime of the actual city. Remember that fondly as you gird your loins and whatever else might need girding because, well, this new stuff is…busy.
I can sort of understand what they were going for, but my god. There is a Batman logo on top of another Batman logo. You can even see what 4chan managed to do with such immaculate artistry.
On the flip side, Far Cry 3‘s box art was also shown recently, and you know what? It’s good. No, it’s great.
The details border on hyperrealism with Vaas, the game’s antagonist and chronic monologuer. It also provides a nice dichotomy of the serene tropical setting with that uneasy feeling that eventually sinks in once you realize that there are bodies hanging from the trees and a good amount of said trees are ostensibly burning.
Apparently, they only save the good stuff for Europe, though. The US version is less than ideal.
