UPDATE: according to Polygon, a LucasArts representative says the PlayStation Germany post was “not accurate” and that they “do not have any announcements to make at this time.” Which part isn’t accurate? They don’t say, so take that as you will. PlayStation Germany responded to Kotaku with a hearty “God no, we are not confirming anything!” Original story below.
Upfront, you should know that despite being “official” in the sense that it is very much on the real PlayStation Germany’s Facebook page, this is unconfirmed. And in fact, the album that they posted appears to no longer be available, but the description up at the time was “Star Wars 1313 erscheint 2013 für PlayStation 3,” which, as you can imagine, says that Star Wars 1313 is coming to the PS3 in 2013.
This is a surprise because from what we’ve seen at E3 and in videos, the graphics for Star Wars 1313 is, to say the least, stellar. As in too stellar for this generation of consoles. At the time, all anyone could get out of LucasArts was that the game was running on high-end PCs using a modified version of Unreal Engine 3. That lends some credence towards it being on current generation consoles since Unreal Engine 4 is likely geared towards the currently unannounced (but likely to be announced in June) consoles from Microsoft and Sony, but there’s no way, no matter how much magic Tim Sweeney uses, that the Star Wars 1313 we’ve seen will be the same one that could ever make it to the PS3.
We’ll see what happens. Many feelers are out, I’m sure, to confirm or deny this particular rumor, but as it stands, even if this is true, it does not necessarily preclude or affirm Star Wars 1313 being a next gen game.
