Antec has just released the next generation of their Three Hundred Series Mid-Tower PC Case. The Three Hundred Two is a mid-priced case aimed at gamers and custom PC builders and it packs a lot of good features.

The case comes with a total of 11 drive bays, all of which are tool-less for easy installation and maintenance. There are three 5.25 bays for optical drives, memory card readers, and other external drives, six 3.5″ internal drives for your HDDs, and two 2.5″ drive bays for SSD’s (which are mounted in some strange places…). Unfortunately no external 3.5″ bays, but for this price you can’t have everything.

There are some other great features included as well that you don’t always see in cheaper cases. There is a removable air vent and dust filter for the PSU, allowing the built-in fan to actually generate airflow. The front panel also comes with a removable dust filter, and slots for two 120mm fans.

The biggest downside to the case is that out of the six fan slots, only two come installed out of the box. The other four, two front slots, and one on each side panel, have to be purchased separately. However the placement of those slots is excellent, and allows for good expansion later on.

The list of improvements continues, including space for THREE 12.5″ graphics cards (which gives you an extra .5″ over the largest card on the market), water-cooling support, a Front I/O panel with audio in/out and USB 3.0 ports for blazing transfer speeds, and cable routing holes.

Overall this is a great case and has a lot of improvements over the previous generation. There is a lot of room inside for a mid size case, and the room for fan expansion lets you customize your airflow however you like. The Three Hundred Two is a little out of the budget case range, but falls well below the pricey options. Early reviews have cited the cases sturdy build, so you get quality components and a lot of features. The Three Hundred Two has a MSRP of $80, but is available right now for $70.

A few months ago Zen Studios released their stellar Zen Pinball game for iOS and (some) Android devices. Amazing graphics, full featured tables and physics; Zen Pinball for mobile devices is the FULL experience.

The only flaw was that of the few dozen tables available for the various console iterations of the game, only a small handful made it to the mobile game. Now the stable of tables is increasing a little bit.

The Excalibur table, a very well crafted medieval table, is available now as in-app DLC for just $0.99. Featuring the castle of Camelot, the famous Round Table, as well as Merlin… the WIZARD; the Excalibur table is one of my personal favorites.

Zen Pinball is only available for NVIDIA Tegra Android devices, so if you happen to have one of those powerhouses get downloading! If you have a iOS anything capable of running iOS 5.0 is good too go.

Also remember that the Zen Pinball app is a free download and comes with the Sorcerer’s Lair (which I gave a 9/10 on Xbox 360 and PS3) table. If you are looking for a mobile game to really sink some time in, Zen Pinball’s $0 price tag is a must.

The classic FPS DOOM, which is available for about every platform ever conceived, is headed back onto the Xbox 360 tomorrow morning. On January 20th the game will be republished to the Xbox Live Arcade Marketplace.

DOOM was originally released for XBLA in September of 2006, and was published by Activision, but when Bethesda bought iD Software, it had to be taken down. The publishing is now being done by Bethesda itself.

Remember that while the game is old, this port has online Deathmatch and Co-Op, which I personally think is a complete blast to play and certainly makes the game worth its 400msp ($5) asking price.

The 1993 classic was one of the first first-person-shooter games ever and inspired years of DOOM-Clones until the modern FPS design came about. The game is rated M for Mature, though its violence hardly compares to most other current games.

Valve released a Christmas-themed Team Fortress 2 comic, and may have included hints about Half Life on the last page of said comic. In a fake newspaper headline there are two faint and obscure clues that seem to be hidden within. First is the coffee cup stains on the left, which seem to form a backwards “3″. This is pretty noticeable just by looking at the page, which is reproduced below. When you mess with the color balance you get an even clearer picture, that shows that the two stains overlap to form the three, which you can see in the second image(which is color adjusted and reversed). This on its own isn’t much, in fact its basically nothing. However the second piece of the puzzle is the key…

Behind the spy to the right there is something very subtle. An upside down lambda logo – the known Half-Life symbol. In the original image you can very faintly make it out. However with some more Photoshop trickery it can be revealed. First we invert the image in order to pull out the darker photos, then adjust the contrast a bit and flip the image. Do you see the lambda outline in the picture to the left? If not, how bout on the right, when we overlay a Half-Life logo on top. Not only does the lambda-symbol fit in pretty perfectly, the circular outline matches with the impression as well. When you also consider the Half-Life 3 T-Shirt that was spotted on a Valve employee recently it seems to indicate a pattern. The next game in the series should be Half-Life: Episode 3, not Half Life 3 proper, but the styling is consistent between the this comic and the shirt, where the 3 is emphasized.

With these two clues in the comic together its hard to dismiss that they are real, but what it indicates is unclear. Its possible these are just easter eggs for the eagle-eye fan to spot, and its possible Valve could be hinting about the next Half-Life’s release.

With over 1000 games in the Steam Catalog its not easy to pick out the best ones – and its even harder to find the less promoted ones during their epic sales. Steam’s 2011 Holiday Sale is going on now until January 2nd. Hidden pages deep in the lists are hidden gems you might have otherwise missed.

Daily deals are excluded because of their limited window of availability. We also didnt mediocre games that just happen to be heavily discounted , or great games that are not as cheap as they should be (like Red Faction Guerrilla or Bad Company 2, which are both well worth the purchase but are regularly on sale for more than they currently are).

Only actually great games at actually great prices are included - the true hidden gems of the Steam 2011 Holiday Sale:

Shatter

Breakout + Classic Action Game = Shatter. Using a unique mechanic that allows you to push and pull objects, you will destroy those viscous block formations that hover around space and fight bosses on rectangular and spherical stages . Ever since Shatter’s original release on PS3 the game has been critically unappreciated, despite offering the most unique take on Breakout since the genre’s inception. Available now for just $2.50 – Shatter has dropped this low before, but if you still havent bought the game, this is your chance.

Demolition Inc.

Demolition Inc. is a relatively new release from an extremely obscure PC developer. You play as an alien construction company tasked with the job of leveling Earth. Use a series of tools to cause inconspicuous destruction and finish the job before the Army arrives. For just $2.50 Destruction Inc. is a very fun action-strategy game with enough varied modes to keep you entertained for a lazy summer weekend.

eversion

eversion is an interesting take on the platformer genre, hiding underneath the usual cute skin is a creepy interior. Like, CREEPY, worse than that backward version of the Lavender Town theme. Well crafted and unique, eversion provides a worthwhile experience through its short story. Grab it for just $1.25.

SEGA Genesis Classics Packs

Each pack comes with 10 games – of varying quality – from the Sega Genesis era. But its safe to say each pack comes with a decent amount of good retro fun that is well emulated, and is well worth the purchase if you are easily affected by nostalgia. Each pack is just $3.75.

Street Fighter IV

While this version is outdated compared to Street Fighter IV: Arcade Version, its just 1/4th of the price. If you enjoy the occasional foray into fighting games then this is the best deal you can get. For just $5 you are getting a well crafted and beautiful modern fighting game to play alone or with some friends.

The Mawsome Pack

The Maw was a hit indie game from 2009 – featuring an adorable main character who can kill just about anything. Guide Maw through a alien-world that is well constructed the whole way through. Only $3 for the game and all its DLC.

Earlier this week Steam unveiled their Holiday Sale – which puts almost every game in their catalog on sale. On top of that, it marked the launch of the Epic Holiday Giveaway – a contest that involves getting daily achievements in order to win prizes and games. Each time you get one of the daily achievements you either win a game, a coupon for a specific future purchase, or a piece of coal. Get enough coal and you can craft it into a different random prize, keep the coal and you can use it as a entry into the Epic Giveaway at the end – which can get you EVERY game on Steam.

With such a big prize being offered, and so many games being given out for free, it was only a matter of time until people started exploiting the contest. To get everyone started, Valve gives every user who enters two prizes right away – basically freebie prizes just for using Steam during the sale. To be able to enter you need to have a game tied to your account, which seems like a simple enough way to discourage cheaters. Who would go to the trouble of making a new account and spending money on a cheap game just to gamble on a prize, which could end up being a 10% off coupon for some obscure game no one wants. And who would do that hundreds of times? The cheapest game on Steam is over 50 cents, and the chances of winning a game are not too high, so you will quickly realize you are wasting a lot of money.

Well unfortunately when you add in the Humble Indie Bundle – everyone’s favorite pay-what-you-want site – everything changes. For just 1 penny you can nab yourself a Steam redeemable key, and make your account valid for entry in the Epic Giveaway and the freebie prizes. That means you can create 100 accounts for just $1 – and while its a significant time investment, you are guaranteed to get a return on your investment.

Exploiting Humble Indie Bundle 4 for this purpose caused the average price to drop over 25 cents since the Steam Holiday Sale began, which is quite a feat seeing as the bundle has moved over 350,000 units. In fact, its become so rampant that the Humble Bundle team has changed the rules. To receive a Steam key for your games you now have to pay at least $1 – which is 100x higher than the old minimum. This should be instrumental in curbing piracy and exploitation, and is something that should have been enforced since the very first bundle.

Unfortunately it does not end here. Since Humble Bundle’s success we have seen many copycat bundles arising. The new target for exploiters is the IndieGala bundle, which currently sits at 39,428 purchases. For just a penny you can nab the IndiaGala games, and unlike the Humble Bundle, you get a separate Steam key for each game. That means that for just a penny exploiters can qualify five duplicate Steam accounts.

Now of course Valve has the requisite rules hidden away in the fine print that state you are disqualified from the Epic Giveaway if you are found to be entering multiple times or automating the process. However users are more concerned about exploiters drying up the prize pool. Each time you earn a daily achievement you get a chance to win the three prizes mentioned before – a game, a coupon, or some coal. Its incredibly likely that the publishers have decided ahead of time how many copies they would give away in this contest. So when you have thousands of fake Steam accounts receiving prizes its possible that in a few days all that will be left for legitimate users are coupons or coal – which will make a very un-merry holiday season for many.

There are other measures in place to prevent exploitation. For instance, in order to trade your account needs to be open for 90 days. However exploiters who scammed the Summer Sale Treasure Hunt now have accounts that are old enough, and its unclear if trading coal is under the same 90 day restriction.

This year had a lot of big releases for Xbox 360 – and we narrowed it down to just the top three. We played all the games, and it was a hard job; trust me, you wouldn’t want to do it. Oh you would?.. well then… Incidentally, we still did this not-so-hard job, and here is what we came up with:

Top 3 Xbox 360 Games of The Year

3. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3

After a brief departure to the Cold War-era in Black Ops, Call of Duty has returned to our favorite time: today. Modern Warfare 3 combines a high-action single-player campaign with a multiplayer that’s been expanded, even after all these iterations. The new engine improvements bring 60fps gameplay and the fastest response times of any console shooter – delivering the perfected competitive shooter. The new Call of Duty:Elite service, which had a rough launch, adds another layer of depth to the stat-tracking madness.

Modern Warfare 3 hasn’t impressed just us – the game has hit $1 Billion in sales twice as fast as Black Ops. If you haven’t engaged in the door-breaching, knife-throwing, perk-picking action yet, you are certainly missing out. Read Platform Nation’s full review of Modern Warfare 3 here.

2. Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

We have all wanted to fight giants and dragons, assassinate unaware townspeople, and throw mudcrabs off mountains for years, and now we can! Bethesda’s Elder Scrolls franchise has finally made a return since 2006′s Oblivion, and boy is it a welcome comeback. A revamped fighting and skill system, WAY better graphics, and even more content and quests!

If you have not played Skyrim, you are surely missing out on one of the greatest games of the year. The improvements over Oblivion are very obvious – and exploring the vast lands of Elder Scrolls lore has never been more fun. Read Platform Nation’s full review of Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim here.
1. Gears of War 3

It’s been 18 months since Jacinto was flooded in Gears of War 2, and survivors moved to Vetes to rebuild, and the Gears of War 3 stage is set. In what is an exciting end to the Gears of War trilogy, we seen the rise of the imulsion infected Lambents, and humans suffering from imulsion poisoning at Mercy, but the action doesn’t stop there. We see some old faces we loved from the previous Gears titles, and some new faces that are a welcome addition. A lot of people didn’t care for the storyline, but give it a fair shot, because there’s a good story in what is one of the most gripping games of the Gears franchise, Gears of War 3.

If you haven’t picked up Gears of War 3 to give a play through, you should. The multiplayer aspect of the game will surprise you, as new game modes and the Season Pass has been introduced in GoW 3 and gives you a lot bang for the buck. For return players and fans of the Gears series, this is an excellent end to a series that some hoped would never die. But all good things must come to an end, and Gears of War 3 did just that. Long live the COG!

So what did you think of Platform Nation’s Top 3 Xbox 360 Games of 2011? Maybe you would have picked something different, or maybe you totally agree. Whatever the case let us know what your Top Three Xbox 360 Games of 2011 were below in the comment section.

Welcome to the 2011 Platform Nation Holiday Buyers Guide! This section will show you our top picks for hardware and gaming accessories!

Controllers and Accessories

KontrolFreeks - PS3 and Xbox 360 Controller Add-on – $10-15

Every gamer wants to win, its just a fact; and whether or not you’re endowed with virtual ass-kicking skills, you can always use an extra edge. KontrolFreeks gives you that edge, in any genre of game. Platform Nation has reviewed a series of KontrolFreeks, and the true standouts are the Speed Freek Apex – which give you the best control over racing games, the FPS Freek EPIC for the best performance in shooters, and the FPS Freek CQC for the ultimate in grip and close-quarters control.

Raptor Gaming LK1 Keyboard – Gaming Keyboard -$35

The Raptor Gaming LK1 is one of the cheapest and well made gaming keyboards on the market today. For just $35 – which beats out other manufacturer’s cheapest boards by $10-15, the LK1 provides an extremely light actuation force in a small frame. Other features include a water-resistant frame and a 6-key rollover. Read the full review of the Raptor Gaming LK1 here.

Subsonic Pro PS3 Controller – Playstation 3 Controller – $40

The Subsonic Pro controller for the PS3 provides many of the same features as the Sony Dualshock, but for less money. Rumble? Check. Wireless? Check. Re-Chargeable Battery? Check. Unfortunately the Subsonic Pro does not have support for SixAxis motion controls – but it’s not like anyone liked that anyway, right? The Subsonic Pro has redesigned triggers for added precision. Best of all the controller is compatible with the PC as well, so it’s like getting two controllers for the price of one! Read our full review of the Subsonic Pro PS3 Controller here.

Memorex Wii Controller and Nunchuck – 3rd Party Wii Controller – $35 – $50 w/nunchuck

The Wii is a party game system, and you can’t play party games without a lot of controllers! But who wants to go spending a bunch on extra controllers? The Memorex Wii Controller provides quality control for just $35! The body of the controller is identical to the official Nintendo unit – from the button placement to the battery cover – which lets you use all your existing controller accessories and battery packs with the Memorex set. MotionPlus is integrated into the unit, so it supports all the newest games and features. The Nunchuck, which is sold separately, is a stylish and sleek wireless unit that syncs up flawlessly. The Memorex Wii Controller is a quality third party controller on the cheap. See our full review here.

Snakebyte Minimote – Wii Controller – $25

The Minimote fits the Wii controller into a shell that’s 25% smaller. Perfect for young kids or gamers with small hands. The Minimote is well constructed and sturdy, giving you a good durable 3rd party alternative. The downsides, though, are that the small size means it wont work with Wii accessories like steering wheels or battery packs. But if the normal Wiimote is just too big, it’s a solid option. Read our full review here.

Fling – iPad Controller – $20

Ten One Design made the headlines with their Pogo Stylus, a stylus that worked on the iPad, iPhone and other capacitive screens. Now they make a whole assortment of capacitive accessories, that bring some much needed analogue controls to the mostly button-less tablets of today. The Fling is designed especially for the iPad, and is a mechanical analogue stick that uses a coiled piece of plastic to provide resistance like console controllers do. Press it on with the integrated suction cups, and like magic you have an analogue stick to play your favorite games with. For those going for the high score or playing online, the added control really helps. The only downside to the Fling is its admittedly high price tag. See our full review here.

Audio Equipment

Blue Snowball USB Recording Mic – High Grade Microphone – $50-60

The Blue Snowball USB Mic is the perfect companion to any enterprising podcaster. The classically styled microphone is easy to use, well constructed, and most importantly – sounds natural. Many podcasts use the Blue Snowball Mic for their shows because it captures your voice in an authentic way – in fact some of Platform Nation’s own podcasters use the Blue Snowball. Three selectable settings on the back provide optimal conditions for recording vocals, music, and interviews or conferences. The Blue Snowball is available for around $50-$60, making it the perfect microphone for recording professional-grade audio or simply talking to teammates in ventrillo. See our full review here.

iFrogz Legion Earbuds – Noise Isolating Earbuds – $25

These earbuds pack in incredible sound, powered by a 9mm driver, while at the same time keeping outside sound out. Don’t be afraid to jam out with the Legion Earbuds, which reproduce bass in booming quantity. The buds come with 3 sizes of earfit attachments for all listeners. Best of all they provide all this for just $25, a price that can’t be beat. Read our full review here.

iFrogz Vertex Headset – Integrated Mic Headphones – $50

Maybe the above Legion Earbuds arent for you; you’re just not an earbuds guy. Thats okay, because iFrogz also makes an excellent pair of traditional headphones. The AeroFoam padding leaves the softest imprint on your ears, meaning you will never get usage fatigue. On top of that the Vertex Headset comes with an in-line mic, so you can listen to music without compromising sound-quality, but still have the convenience of quickly answering calls.

The Vertex Headset also looks spiffy – much more so than you would expect for a midpriced set. The reinforced cord and plug will keep them safe when you store them in your bag. See the full review here.

JLAB J-4 Headset – Premium Earbuds – $40

The JLAB J-4 Headsets are high-quality and absolutely pop due to their bright coloring. On top of the unique coloring is the distinguishable square plug which sets it apart from other designs. The large buds produce booming sound and are compatible with all 3.5mm devices. The J-4s come with a whopping 7 set of ear cushions for every imaginable size of ear! So if you are in the market for comfy and quality earbuds the JLAB J-4s are the way to go. See the full review here.

Whats that you say? The Microsoft Xbox 360 headset only provides voice output and 5.1 sets are too expensive and bulky? Well then the Yapster Blaster Headset is the perfect in between. For just $30 you get a very high quality headset and attached microphone that works flawlessly as a PC headset. Then snap on the dongle and you have a fully compatible Xbox 360 headset. The functionality is perfect for gamers who switch platforms a lot, and there is no doubt you will be pleased with the sound quality. See our full review here.

Tired of the weak and quiet sound of your laptop speakers? Want to blast music for a party, play a videogame at full effect, or enjoy a movie? The JLAB B-Flex USB PC Speaker is perfect for any situation. It will surprise you by its volume and since its portable you can take it with you and enjoy the benefits of a speaker system without the size of traditional units. Even though its small and doesn’t need external power the B-Flex really blasts sound – you can listen to the test audio we recorded for our review and read more about the B-Flex here.

Sumo makes premium beanbag chairs for comfortable lounging and gaming. While you may think some fancy thing made out of wood with legs and arms would be comfy you would be wrong, because sitting in a Sumo beanbag chair is just one level below relaxing in a cloud. Whereas the beanbag you had in college was a trash-bag full of packing peanuts stapled shut, Sumo’s beanbags are made of the highest quality materials. The high quality nylon bag is filled with what Sumo will only say are “Sumo Beads” , and my best guess of whats inside would be feathers from an angel’s wings. Now unfortunately all this comfort comes at a price – The Sumo Omni Bag comes in at $150 and the Sumo Gamer at an even steeper $200. Fortunately shipping is included – and since these bags weigh an upwards of 15lbs, this is quite a savings – and they come with a great warranty. Everyone at Platform Nation who has used a Sumo product has loved it. You can read our full review of the Sumo Omni here and the Sumo Gamer here.

Happy Toy Machine – Customized Stuffed Animals – $30-50

HappyToyMachine.com isn’t some Japanese game show, but a really unique service that also allows you to create customized stuffed toys. If you are over the age of 8, or don’t have any kids, this probably does not interest you. But if you are in their demographic, this is a really great gift idea for your children. You get to design the face and facial features, its outfit, and a new feature lets you customize the hair. The company is working to add new features all the time to expand the choices. One of our Platform Nation writers (and father) customized and created a toy with his son, and they both loved the experience and final product. Read an in-depth review that documents all the steps here.

Bioserie Case – iPod Touch 4G Case – $35

I know what you’re saying right now, ugh there are roughly a billion iPod and iPhone cases, all doing pretty much the same thing. But no! This one is different! Bioserie’s cases are made from a plant-based bioplastic which doesn’t produce toxic byproducts that harm the environment. Bioserie makes a whole range of iDevice cases; we at Platform Nation got our hands on the iPod Touch 4G case. Soft colors, a good grip, and ecofriendly design make this case a great buy. It’s a little on the expensive side, but if you want to support environmentally friendly technology you got to pay a bit more. Read our full review here.

OBi110 – VoIP Phone System – $50

You have probably seen commercials for the Magic Jack – the only sold on TV doohickey that promises cheap phone calls. Well the OBi110 is like a magic jack on a steroid cocktail. It gives you VoIP service and integrates seamlessly with your normal phone service. Pick up the phone and add a prefix and you can call straight to a VoIP service. It also integrates directly with Google Voice, which is a pretty slick feature. Better yet, all the services like conferences calling, call forwarding, caller id, and many more, are free. Read more about all of the OBi110′s great features here.

Cirago HydraDisplay X3 – Multimonitor Adapter – $130

The Cirago HyrdaDisplay lets you mirror an image on up to three monitors or project a continuous one for super-wide screen gaming or movie viewing. It’s mostly a specialized item, but if you are in the market for a multimonitor adapter this is a very good pick. It splits one display port plug into three DVI ports and the unit outputs up to 3840 x 1024 or three 1280×1024. Remember though you still need powerful hardware to push out all those pixels! Read our full review here.

We are always looking for storage to keep our prized electronic devices from not only the elements but from mishaps when traveling, and Pelican Cases does just that. With its dustproof, crushproof, and watertight protection this is a must have not only for the gamer in your life, but for the photographer, the hunter and to include just about anyone that needs their valuables protected.

UPDATE 6: Today GSC made their official announcement, unfortunately it did not clear up much. GSC said “We will do our best to continue. However, at this moment, nothing is certain,” and “Our website will continue, with the forum & tech support. The shop will continue until the nearest planned items sell out. (uploaded now).” They were unable to confirm if development on STALKER 2 was still on going, or how long they planned to support the site. Rumors is that a further announcement will come next week with info on the fate of the STALKER series. But for now, it seems GSC is down, but maybe not completely out.

UPDATE 5: The official Twitter for GSC Game World has posted just an hour ago that “An official statement will be made on Monday.” It will probably be confirmed then along with the reasons for the closure. Some fans are speculating that this is a PR-ruse but the way this story has developed makes it seem like GSC is truly shut down.

UPDATE 4: Sergey Galyonkin has provided an english translation of his blog post, which clarifies some of his statements. He says, “My friends in GSC believe that the reason for that is failed console publishing deal.” “STALKER 2 was going to become PC exclusive, which isn’t a great future for story-driven game.” Galyonkin does not believe that Grigorovich lost interest in the series. He also says that none of his friends from GSC mentioned anything about government involvement – which was originally mentioned in the Ukranews story. Galyonkin also says the “only thing that valuable in GSC is it’s IP and it is registered outside Ukraine.” Which means that there would not be much sense in the government trying to confiscate their assets.

UPDATE 2 & 3: Joe Mullin, former Social Media Manager with GSC Game World, tweeted to Platform Nation about GSC’s closure, saying “it happened today. To everyone.” Also, that GSC may make an announcement soon.

UPDATE: The original posts on krautchan.net are gone but the links have been updated with pictures of the posts. The concept art seems to have originated on krautchan.net/, a site that uses a BB system similar to 4chan. The german-based boards uses the term “Bernd” to mean an anonymous user. A “Bernd” from Ukraine posted a new thread at 13:05 with some concept art and the text “Hurr”. He followed that post up with some more concept art and the post “GSC closed, all employers fired.” Speculation in the thread that he was lying began immediately, but a moderator quickly showed that he was in-fact not only posting from Ukraine but posting from the GSC Game World domain. The OP wrote again later saying that the studio was closed for “personal reasons” and that Grigorovich “don’t want to sell it to someone” (though this post has not been confirmed to be from the same person). The confirmation of the OP’s posting location and the fact that the concept art seems to have originated from here are both very strong pieces of evidence that seems to confirm the studios closure.
The entire thread is available here as a PDF.

Earlier this morning it was reported that GSC Game World, the Ukrainian developers of the popular S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games for PC , was shut down. Initial reports had little to go on besides a Ukrainian news site and some rumors from inside the company.

GSC denied the closure on their twitter page, but then deleted the tweet. Shortly after that Dimitri Bourkovski, who claimed to be close to GSC (though not an employee) tweeted that the studio was indeed closed. He followed up with a five part tweet saying that “GSC is closing its doors and Stalker2 is frozen.”

Sergey Galyonkin, who may or may not still work for 1C Ukraine, has written a post on his personal blog about the studio’s closure. He says, “GSC is closed, a fact confirmed by all. The team is almost completely dissolved, the state has only a few people.” He cites a failed attempt to secure a console publisher and possible disagreement by the CEO, Sergei Grigorovich, over the direction of STALKER 2′s development.

Most telling is Galyonkin’s post and a tweet by Joe Mullin, the Social Media Manager of GSC Game World looking for work. GSC has made no statement and at the moment all they have to say is “no comment”. It seems right now that this is all but officially confirmed. STALKER 2 is presumably cancelled.

It seems like GSC was in a good financial position, but its possible that piracy damaged the studios financials. Though, the S.T.A.L.K.E.R series has sold over 4 million units, which is no small feat for a Ukrainian game developer. Dmitri Bourkovski wrote that GSC ”was as one of the biggest, right now should be around the same size as Ukranian offices of Ubisoft & Crytek (50-70 people).”

The series mainly appealed to a European audience, which may have meant that rising development costs would not pay off for a shrinking audience.

Sergei Grigorovich, CEO and Founder of GSC Game World, was named “Entrepreneur of the Year” this February by Ernst and Young, a yearly awards ceremony with over 50 participating countries. Grigorovich not only led the development of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R series but also the Cossacks games, which made him his first million. The young CEO, who reportedly drove a Ferrari with a “STALKER” license plate, may have been instrumental in the closing of the company, best put in the Urkanews headline, “Kiev company decided to self-destruct.”

It was also mentioned in the in the Ukranews.com story that there might be some connection to GSC’s closure and a possible investigation into the company by some government office. Its being speculated that it could be due to tax evasion or some other sort of corruption, or an attempt by the government to seize the companies assets. This is not confirmed however, and poor translations from Russian make it even harder to understand.

The leaked concept art is posted below:

This news deeply saddens me. As a PC gamer, S.T.A.L.K.E.R is one of the modern series’ that really show off the PC’s potential. The game combined a unique setting with a wealth of mechanics in a way that almost no other game does. If you are a true video game enthusiast you need to play the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series. It’s hard to have a full understanding of modern game design and its potential without having spent at least a little time in the zone. Farewell, STALKER.

Zen Studios has been teasing us for weeks and revealing their new pinball tables very slowly. They have finally pulled the wraps off the final table for the upcoming Marvel Pinball: Vengeance and Virtue game.

The final table will feature Thor and his iconic villains including Loki and the Ruler of Muspelheim….? Huh, who? Well either way, the table has all the vivid stylings of a 90s arcade machine and looks to be another excellent addition to their stable.

Marvel Pinball: Vengeance and Virtue features four tables, based on Moon Knight, Ghost Rider, the X-Men and Thor. It releases on December 13th, 2011 for PSN as DLC for Marvel Pinball (which unfortunately means you need to own the $10 game as a prerequisite) and December 14th for XBLA as an expansion for Pinball FX2 (which is a free launcher). Both versions will cost $10/800msp.

Thor Revealed as the final Marvel Pinball: Vengeance and VirtueTable

The Norse God of Thunder Defends Asgard and Strikes Pinball Brilliance

Los Angeles, CA – December 5, 2011 – Zen Studios and Marvel Entertainment today announced Thor as the final character in the upcoming Marvel Pinball: Vengeance and Virtuefour-table pack, available for download next week for Xbox LIVE® Arcade for 800 Microsoft Points (as DLC for Pinball FX2) and $9.99 on PlayStation®Network (as DLC for Marvel Pinball). With tables for “vengeful” characters Moon Knight and Ghost Rider already announced, Thor joins the X-Men to round out the collection’s “virtuous” side.

Venturing throughout the Nine Realms, Thor must defend Asgard against his mischievous half-brother Loki and the ferocious power of the Destroyer armor, as well as the evils of the fire demon Surtur, and Ymir, ruler of the Frost Giants. Thor unleashes strikes of brilliant lightning and hurls his powerful hammer Mjolnir on this visually striking table that boasts more animations than any other to date in the critically acclaimed Marvel Pinball series.

Marvel Pinball: Vengeance and Virtue will be available for download on December 13 on PSN and December 14 on XBLA. This brand new four-table pack will integrate seamlessly to Pinball FX2 on Xbox LIVE® Arcade, and Marvel Pinball on PlayStation®Network.

To download Marvel Pinball: Vengeance and Virtue Thor table assets including trailer and screenshots, please visit the Marvel Pinball press site.
