Just…wow. I can consistently beat my friends at Street Fighter, but if I showed up at this Evo Championship Series event it would be bringing a knife to a gun fight. I’ve been watching the live stream for awhile, and I’m pretty sure all of these guys could perfect me with their eyes closed (http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/118/1184859p1.html):

Today, Street Fighter AE 4 and Mortal Kombat pool play through the semi-finals will be going on for 15 hours. Tomorrow, it’s another 15 hours of Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Tekken 6, and Blazblue. Championship Sunday will be 10 short hours of final matches for the five fighting games highlighted at this tournament.

I watched a guy combo the crap out of some poor sap with Yang.

The level of fighting game comprehension shown by the players is impressive: cross-ups, option selects, and risk punishing are all commonplace. Fortunately, there are a couple of Street Fighter buffs doing the broadcasting; they are pretty good at explaining the nuances.

The commentators get excited whenever someone picks Dan.

Remember when I posted the live stream for the League of Legends tournament? Even if you aren’t big into fighters, you should stop in for a few minutes. I can promise you will learn a thing or two.

Love it or hate it, Tekken 6 marked the first time in franchise history that the game went to great lengths to appeal to the more casual market. And that’s really paid off for Namco Bandai, as series Director/Producer Katsuhiro Harada just made a great announcement on his twitter feed.

We sold TK6 over 3.5million copies world wide thx!

I don’t personally own Tekken 6, but I’ve played more than enough Bob using a friend’s copy. Hopefully, this new sales figure bodes well for the sales of Street Fighter X Tekken and more importantly, the recently announced Tekken Tag 2, as that will likely lead to a greenlight on Tekken X Street Fighter. With all these titles, as well as Soul Caliber V on the horizion, the fighting game renaissance is truly in new swing. It would be great if we saw an original IP that wasn’t BlazBlue soon, but for now, I’m more than happy with where the genre is going.

Capcom just released an all new gameplay video of the upcoming Street Fighter X Tekken crossover fighter, a game being made by legendary Street Fighter producer Yoshinoro Ono. Based on the look of the gameplay trailer, which features Street Fighter characters giving massive beatdowns to their Tekken rivials, the art style looks a bit more inky and stylized and the combat seems to be a little more complex than Street Fighter IV. Take a look at the trailer below to see what I’m talking about.

Additionally, Capcom also released part of the roster for the game, which I’ll post below. It’s likely a partial roster, as the list is way to small to be the final build of the game. Street Fighter X Tekken is set to be released in 2012 for the Xbox 360 and PS3.

For those of you waiting for more older games to come to the PS3, the wait is over! Seven more titles have been added to the Greatest Hits library, most of them I’m sure you will all be happy to see. Since quite a few PS3′s can’t play PSone or PS2 games, this is the only way we can get some of our favorite games back and my hope is that Sony will continue to keep adding to the list. Is there a specific game you’re waiting for?

September 28, 2010 – Sony Computer Entertainment America LLC (SCEA) today announced seven new games will be added to the growing “Greatest Hits” library, once again delivering exceptional value to PlayStation®3 owners. Starting today, these best-selling PS3™ titles will be available at retailers in the United States and Canada for $29.99 (MSRP). PS3 games deemed “Greatest Hits” have surpassed an impressive sales threshold and represent the highest caliber of quality software available on the PS3 system.

The newest additions to the “Greatest Hits” library include:

MAG™ (Sony Computer Entertainment)

Ratchet & Clank® Future: A Crack in Time (Sony Computer Entertainment)

MotorStorm®: Pacific Rift (Sony Computer Entertainment)

Demon’s Souls (Atlus)

TEKKEN 6 (NAMCO BANDAI Games)

With more than 40 titles available to date, this latest collection of “Greatest Hits” continues to showcase the platform’s best-selling titles across a broad range of genres, including first-person shooter, platformer, fighting and action/adventure. When combined with the recent launch of PlayStation®Move, 3D Blu-ray™support and an increasing amount of downloadable titles on PlayStation®Network, PlayStation 3 continues to deliver a compelling and comprehensive entertainment value to consumers.

This hungry snack of joy from the SFAlpha game was a lame character with obvious malnutrition inspired hair. I hope Ken and Ryu shared a Birdie head Sandwich afterwards.

4.Cloud Strike, Final Fantasy VII – DragonBall Plagiarism

An Obvious play on Goku’s hair from the DragonBall series. I’m also certain that if Cloud and Goku fought over the hair style, FFVII would have one less protagonist. Just sayin… FireBall > Buster Sword.

3.Heihachi Mishima, Tekken 6 – Old-man Up Dew

This old-timer has some moves, but what he doesn’t have is Nivia Just for Men gray hair removal system. Mishima looks like scrooge McDuck stuck a fork into an outlet and contracted Japanese Fighter Syndrome.

2.Rockey Rodent – Anything Dew

Remembering this game in it’s entirety is a joyous dream. As Rockey Rodent you run through the levels beating up baddies with your awesome hair, collecting power-ups changes your hair into something different. From chain link whips to Fire attacks Rockey Rodent kicks some serious salon ASS.

1. Bayonetta – hair-suit-of-armor

Uhhhh.. her clothes/armor is made up of her hair? Do I need to say more. OH WAIT! Periodically it comes off of her and turns into giant monster eating demon dogs!

*Don’t see one of your picks on here? Post a Comment!*

There have been rumors over the past several months now on that Namco Bandai could no longer support their large staff with their poor sales and delays dating back to even 2008. And earlier today it was confirmed that Namco Bandai will be experiencing layoffs at the end of January, this will be affecting both Namco Bandai Games America and, potentially the Tokyo side as well. It was said that the layoffs were because of both their excessive over-budgeting with Bottlerocket Games on the title Splatterhouse, which is now an in-house Namco Banadai game and other factors that pointed to poor sales on both Afro Samurai, which sold under 500k units, and Tekken 6, that performed poorly when compared to is past predecessors. The company released a statement about the layoffs say that: “They’re currently re-organizing the remaining staff to push production on Splatterhouse.” The problem is that current predictions aren’t looking good for the game and future layoffs could be possible. We here at PlatformNation.com hope everything turns out fine, because we’d hate to hear another great developing team like Namco Bandai banner. We’ll keep you posted.

Tekken 6 is a great game, There is nothing like sitting down with a friend and beating the hell out of each other at free will, especially when the option to do it in the form of a kangaroo or a tree man is available. But in my opinion the scenario campaign mode was a let down, walking around some sort of beat-em-up type game with an A.I partner could be fun… but it wasn’t in fact it could be said that it was kind of joyless, and every time I’ve played it I’ve thought to myself “Why can’t I play this online with my friends…after all I do have a partner in the game”

Well Namco listened to me, because the next patch for Tekken 6 will include online co-op in the scenario campaign mode. The patch will also fix Mokujin’s AI and now in online versus mode his fighting style changes with every round.

The update for Tekken 6 will be available on January 18th for both the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions

UK.PlayStation.com had a chance to talk to the director of the Tekken team: Katsuhiro Harada who hinted that more Tekken 6 Downloadable Content is likely to be on it’s way and it might be free! When asked what plans the Tekken Team had with additional download content from PlayStation Store? Katsuhiro responded: “There is a strong possibility we will. However, even if we were to do so, it would be free to the end user.” This came shortly after the announcement from Mike “Gabe” Krahulik’s Twitter account where he posted: “Yes this is for real. Cts costume will be in Tekken 6!” This would be adding a Cardboard Tube Samurai from the popular web comic Penny-Arcade.com to Tekken 6. Katsuhiro also stated: “Obviously the biggest difference is the graphics as the power of these two systems is different. However, we did our best to adapt the PS3 version to the PSP in the best way possible. I don’t think that the fans will be disappointed.” Does that mean the PSP may receive some extra DLC from the Tekken Team? Tune into Platform Nation for any updates!
