Paradox Interactive’s release of Crusader Kings II: Greed is fast approaching, and they’ve put out another live action trailer in their series of videos leading up to the game’s release. Their latest trailer features the consequences of not choosing your advisers wisely in Crusader Kings II.

NEW YORK – January 10th, 2011 – Sound the trumpets! Paradox Interactive has released the fourth of the Deadly Sins live action trailers Crusader Kings II: Greed, for medieval strategy / RPG Crusader Kings II.

The fourth, and perhaps the last. True to the game, our King has overstretched himself, conquered the lands of far too many rulers and finds himself with a list of enemies as long as his codpiece. Only his spymaster can save the day, and the man is a conniving, filthy, traitorous, two-faced scoundrel. Could anyone ask for a better political ally*?

The information trickling out about the game has me curious on how the final product will end up. If their videos are any sign, the game looks like it’ll be a great mix of humor and strategic gameplay. Please check back with Platform Nation for more details.

The information continues to pour in on the videos we brought to you during the 2011 VGA’s. Here we have more information for the newest installment of the Alan Wake series, Alan Wake American Nightmare.

First up more about the downlaodable game that is heading to Xbox Live Arcade in early 2012:

Alan Wake’s American Nightmare is a stand-alone spin-off experience that anyone can pick up and play, even if they’ve never played the original Alan Wake before. It’s a combination of adrenaline-fueled arcade action and an exaggerated pulp action-adventure story. It’s instant fun for all gamers but also takes the Alan Wake story forward for the fans.

In Alan Wake’s world, fiction can become real. Alan Wake is fighting against his evil double, Mr. Scratch, an urban legend come true. He is a supernatural serial killer on his way to Wake’s wife, Alice. Wake must stop him before that happens.

Fans of the older KOF games such as The King of Fighters ’98 and The King of Fighters 2002 will be able to enjoy using Iori with his flames in XIII. Originally in the arcade release, Iori lost his powers within the game story rendering his move set less projectile based and more up close.

Billy Kane from the Fatal Fury series was the first announced character to appear in the console version of XIII. Most of his moves from his Fatal Fury and KOF appearances are implemented in this game with the emphasis in agility over power.

Saiki, the main antagonist of XIII, is the last confirmed exclusive character. In his normal form apart from his demonic sub-boss form, Saiki plays a bit similar to major character Ash Crimson with the inclusion of a teleport and different desperation attacks.

A little more about World of Warplanes to get you up to speed:

World of Warplanes is the flight combat MMO action game set in the Golden Age of military aviation. The game continues the armored warfare theme marked in the highly-acclaimed World of Tanks and will throw players into a never-ending tussle for air dominance.

However, there is something just stupefying about this one. A group of very (very) dedicated Minecrafters have set about recreating Tolkien’s Middle-earth—albeit on a reduced scale—and have led Jesse Cox of OMFG for episode 6 of Outside the Blocks on a partial tour of everything they have so far, which is everything from the Shire to Moria (check out minute 33) and it’s all totally impressive.

Even though it’s incomplete, you’ll notice that what the group has finished is massive. Around minute 27, you can see the incredibly expansive Weather Hills that lead up to Rivendell which, as stated in the video, was all done before mods and tools had been created for Minecraft. That means every single block was placed there by hand.

The MME group does tours and videos every once in a while (or, rather, whenever they finish a major milestone), so check out their website and join if you feel like you have the time, passion, and/or insanity.

Another Night in Moscow was a pretty unique event. There was alcohol, women in what some people might call uniforms that were a tad too tight (or possibly even see-through [even though not a single person/guy would complain]), and way more games than I was personally expecting to see. And of course, since 1C Company was holding the event, and since they are one of the largest Russian developers in the world, the event was held in the Russian Consulate General down in San Francisco.

After about 30 minutes of a social drinking atmosphere that was held on the first floor of the Consulate General, Tracion PR (who set up the event) invited everyone downstairs so we could hear all about 1C’s games, and from the miscellaneous sponsors of the event. It was a straight PowerPoint that we saw (you can see the pictures of the PowerPoint and several other pictures in this previous post), along with some in-game video and trailers.

Before I continue though, I have to mention the video. The game video was by far the weakest part of this event. The videos that we watched, I felt, were not exciting, pretty pixelated, and in all honesty, it just did not do these games justice. Not a single video got me excited over the games that we were here to check out. Maybe that is one of the many differences between our western developers and some other developers in other countries. The videos just felt so unpolished, and I felt that they were not capturing the best aspects of their games. If felt like we were looking at graphics that might have been playable on systems that were 5 years old (or even maybe longer). Now, when I played the games myself, I was actually impressed by the graphics that I was exposed to; the game trailers and footage, not so much. In all honesty though, I don’t know what was powering the PC’s that we were playing on.  I do know AMD was one of the sponsors of the event, so I know they had their newest and best stuff there. Anyway, I’ll just end this with the following: what I played was a whole lot better then what the trailers showed me.

With the games I played, I’ll be going more into depth later indivually over the next week. I will say, though, that 1C Company games are no joke. They know who their target markets are, and the tend to go after them. They do not dumb down their games for the casual market. Now, because of this, their games are a bitch. No joke. For someone like myself who doesn’t play too many PC games (I live in a Mac household), and for someone that was new to some of these franchises, these games were not made to be pick up and play.

I’m referring to off road racing sims that require using winches, switching to low or high gears, etc. Or flight sims that, when you go all in, you can use 5 screens to act as one, or use full fledged fight controls (IL-2 STURMOVIK: Cliffs of Dover is what I’m referring to here and it was probably one of the most enjoyable games I played at the event).

Like I said, I’ll be going more in depth into each of the games over the coming days here on Platform Nation. I did see a lot in one night, and I want to just make sure that I do these games the proper justice that they deserve.
